Your BIOS has nothing to do with your hard drive. It's all on the motherboard.

You'll have to get a program that does it. Sorry, I don't know of any.

umm all it takes to flash it and save it is a floppy drive and floppy disk.... and the file you have to d/l for updates.

this is a little tip, when you update the bios, dont throw your computer against the wall.

anyhoo

read the instructions. it says nothing about having to do anything to the HDD.

"Why do you think you need to flash your bios?" would be my first question. And then, if the answer is valid, and I determine you have never done it before, I would tell you to take your PC to the local Mom and Pop Shop with experienced technicians and pay them to flash your bios. At any rate, it is not a major deal , other than if you screw up, your mobo is toast. Put the monkey on someone elses back. If at a shop and they screw it up, at least they can fix it.

Other than that, there is another forum here for these kind of questions. It's called technical support. You may find it quite useful.;)

umm for one i have seen lot of people using this board with the p45333 bios and getting great o'c results and i was going to try it, and this will be my first bios flash, and no i won't take it to a mom and pop shop, why should i pay like 50 bucks for something i can do?

umm spanky, thanks but thats the asus p4s133 bios, i need p4s333 bios, lol i think this is it but i dun see how they can get their own specs wrong.

I see you don't read too well. My recommendation stands. Take it to a professional.

its toast if you do it wrong, which its not hard to insert a floppy disk, type in the command and save it...then flash it with another one, if it messes up load the saved one.

yes this is indeed strange. i check out the products page here, and it's ur board. i click on the link on the left side for bios, and it links to here. perhaps there is a typo on asus' website? i would email their tech ppl about this.

Problem is, if you screw it up, you won't be able to boot the mobo....you can only flash back to the older BIOS if the new one is flashed correctly.

Judging from this post less than 30 minutes ago, you now have come to:

its toast if you do it wrong, which its not hard to insert a floppy disk, type in the command and save it...then flash it with another one, if it messes up load the saved one.

Am I to presume you are wasting our time because you now have all the answers? Hell, you can't even find the bios for your motherboard from what you posted.

Go ahead hero. You don't need advice. You are what we IT love to see, the guy who got all his tech experience reading forum messages. You keep us in business. And lots of laughs too.;)

if you read my post tripleshot you'll see i wasn't asking HOW to flash it, i was asking if i need to reformat and where i could find the update becase i found it but the specs are differnt and i was just wandering about those. and if you read on the asus page about flashing its really very simple to do, type in the command choose option 2 save, wa la thats it, then load new one , if it doesn't work don't turn off your computer just wait and then load the saved one.

You are clueless, aren't you? You do not even know if you need to format your hardrive to flash your bios. You are a freaking moron, budro!:disgust:

Flash your bios. And then , overclock your CPU like you want to. some computer dealer is going to make a profit off of you very soon, and thats what we computer dealers like----profit off of idiots like you.

Better yet, just got to start/run and type format c: and hit the enter button. When its all finished, reboot. You'll have a real fast computer then.

yea your starting to piss me off, i'm not dumb you know, infact i did actually build this computer myself, and if you didn't read this will be my FIRST bios flash. so get off my back. I was merely seeing if it was good if i formated my hd since i'd have a new bios , like if that would make it run better or not. and i know what the hell format c: does jackass. i hate tech's like you that assume the people know nothing and you are god and can do everything, usually end up telling them the wrong thing and messing up something.

OK. Here's the deal:

First, you need a flash utility AND the new BIOS file. A disk with the new file on it ain't gonna get you anywhere without the flash utility. Asus has a Windows based flash utility. It's called Live Update. Download and install that. Use the pulldown menus to get the new BIOS file, back-up your current file, then flash using the new file. It's very simple and works great. I've used it many times.

Edit: Also, be aware that you will lose any custom settings you have in your BIOS. When you reboot (assuming the flash was successful), go directly into your BIOS and set it back up the way you had it. Most likely, you'll also default back to 100MHz FSB so your CPU speed may look slow after your reboot.

DO NOT reboot if the flash fails. Just try it again or re-flash with the old BIOS.

>>>i'm not dumb you know,<<<

You sure fooled all of the rest of us!

You do not flash your bios if your system is running the way its supposed to. Refer to my first post in your thread. You do not need to do anything to your hardrive, because you are flashing the firmware on the motherboard. your very question raises the flag about your inteligence level for this project, and hence, others have answered your question.

You also don't go looking for a bios by counting the number of PCI slots and ram slots you have on your mobo as if it where the guidepost to determine which bios to flash. Geeze, your over the top with that one, bubba.

Leave the bios to the pros, thats all I said, based on your utter lack of knowledge on how to do it. It is not a slam dunk easy thing to do, specifically if something goes wrong, like a power outage in the middle of a flash.

And, son, If that pisses you off, I really don't give a sh!t. You have been good for a laugh so far. I tried being honest and helpful. You want to ignore the advice and do it your way.

Yep-----your stupid.:Q

and tripleshot from your post it sure didn't look a bit helpful "take it to a mom and pop shop" "your a moron" <---yep thats really good advice there buster. and why would people not flash there bios to a new one when its out and has fixes and improvements and better o'c ability? that'd be just....dumb? yes.
