That's a pretty good question. I went to their site to see if I could easily dig it up and it didn't say on the memory details page. I have to say that, unless I'm tired and missing the obvious, them not listing the brand is kinda pathetic on their part. Oh well, still no reason to buy from Alienware...

Why?

because they may be using crappy DDR, and for the prices they charge, they better by using XMS

Well, there are three types of people who Alienware appeals. I will explain why none of them should buy from Alienware

1. Someone who thinks they are getting a much better rig than other manufacturers. This is simply not true, you can get a Dell that performs almost as well for much less money. The rig is only slightly better and certainly doesn't justify the price difference.

2. People who want the absolute best in performance. Build a system yourself. Your system will run faster, be cheaper, and you would have learned something building it.

3. People who are ungodly rich and can afford to buy a new PC every time their computer has a problem. Hire someone (like me :) ) to build a PC for you and you'll still end up saving money and getting a faster rig...

I disagree. Sure, Most any of us here in this forum could build a gamer box comparable to what Alienware sells, But what about the not-so-building-savy that want a gaming hotrod that's pre-built, burned in, tested thoroughly, warranted, and ready to frag out of the box.

All wrapped in a not-much-upgradeable proprietary box.
People who want the absolute best in performance. Build a system yourself.
Um...Not everybody that games can do that.
Your system will run faster
Maybe..
People who are ungodly rich and can afford to buy a new PC every time their computer has a problem
Huh...Where did you get that from? Obviously people can afford their complete systems as well as other OEM's or they would be out of business by now.

I was asking about Alienware because i saw one @ best buy, and omg, the graphics were flawless and the performance was awesome. Well, this sounds stupid, but i am on teh same intel mobo they use, and i just wanted to kind of copy their hardware configuration so i can get the same performance out of my computer.

But that Dell probably had
1. really bad sound card
2. bad RAM, or too little
3. XP Home
4. 13" POS moniter

just bought a dell 4600 for 839 - 150 mail in rebate.

865pe motherboard
p4 2.8 800mhz fsb
256mb pc3200 cl3 (2x128sticks)
radeon 9800 128mb
30gb 7200rpm
52x cdrom
audigy2
dell keyboard
dell mouse
onboard ethernet

gonna add two 256mb sticks in dimm3 and dimm4 ($90)
add this to a viewsonic vp171b and z680s and its a pretty decent setup for my dorm room next year without obliterating my wallet.

I have no problem with XP Home???

1. So buy an audigy for $50
2. So upgrade the RAM for $100
3. What's wrong with XP Home?
4. Buy a 19 inch monitor for $200

Still less than you'd pay for an equally equipped Alienware... when you buy Alienware, you're paying for the name, the logo, and the pretty colors you can get them in. If you like pretty colors, the logo, and the name, go for it... if you're value concious, stay away from ALL pre-built systems from large companies.

AlienIce? is quieter than most cooling systems, so it won?t disturb game play.
I love that statement... don't you just hate it when you're driving along in a tank in BF1942 and you're getting shot but you can't hear which direction it's coming from because your computer is louder than gunfire?

Alienware also uses better power supplys and ties off all their wiring. They have custom tweaking software and an email system that informs you of all driver updates for your PC. It comes with self diagnostic and restore CDs that include XP tweaks to make it run faster. Exclusive Alienware only support forums. And tons more.

Theres a lot of little things alienware has that other people dont. Thats what youre paying for, on top of a top of the line PC with good support.

Last i knew, Alienware uses Corsair LL.

According to the July 2003 issue of Maximum PC, which has a review of the $2,999 Area-51, it uses 1GB Corsair DDR400 (two 512MB DIMMS). It doesn't get any better than that.

Not me.
$2399 w/o speakers and monitor, better? Someone with more time should price out the seperate parts:
Intel D875PBZ
3GHz Pentium 4C
1 GB Corsair DDR 400
nVidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra
Two Seagate Barracuda SATA V 120 GB
Samsung SM352B DVD, CD-RW
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Cool Custom Case

And it is still cheaper than the new gaming Dell.

The same people who buy the 3.0 GHz P4 or the 3200+ Barton even though the 2.8C GHz P4 and 3000+ Barton perform withín 5% of it and cost like 60% of it.

That's kind of funny, because my sisters boyfriend was able to crash the Alienware demo box at our Best Buy by exiting out of Medal of Honor.

Actually, my PC has 2 GB of Corsair XMS (4 512MB), and it still managed to be a lot cheaper than the Area-51 even with the Microsoft Office Suite.
