And you have a problem seperating the ribbon cutting and ceremony from government like that? Think about how much time our president has to spend doing stupid crap.

That $50 million is only a fraction of her costs. The monarchy keeps many of their expenses secret, particularly their security costs, likely in part due to their exorbitant costs. The $50 million is for her household expenses (paying servants, etc.). She also doesn't have to pay taxes; instead, she volunteers to pay some.

Also, the monarchy probably doesn't generate anywhere close as much revenue as it costs. Many people like to say that it drives tourism, but tourists cannot buy tickets to the Queen. Moreover, only a single royal residence is even within the Top 20 of British tourist attractions. Legoland there is ranked higher.

The monarchy can be safely abolished without harming tourism revenue; in fact, it may increase tourism revenue because more residences and art will be opened to the public. Many progressive countries have abolished their monarchies but still see much tourism around the related historical sites: see France and Versailles.

Also, the recent royal wedding cost the British economy ~10 billion and caused their GDP forecast to shrink by .25%.
