The monarchy also brings a shit-ton of money to the UK. I don't know how it balances out, but the money flows in two directions.

Because it brings in the tourists who spend billions. Who the hell would go to London otherwise? It has shit weather, shit food, uninteresting general architecture, and the Underground is noisy and utilitarian. All of Europe has dead history, so given that that pretty much any city is better than London in every other respect, if the British killed their monarchy London would be completely wiped off the tourist map.
 
Pay cut to $50 million? How about giving half of that to people who really really need it.

I thought the Royal Family was supposed to make most of their money off of Castle Tours, real estate, and the like?
 
Hahahaha...i wish I was fortunate enough to have a pay cut and ONLY make that much. You know, if they want to save money, I would be willing to do her job for a quarter of the cost and you will not have cover benefits either. Lets just say it's a 1 year contract.

I don't think 50mil is her actual salary. I think 50mil is the allowance that the entire royal family gets to maintain all the property, travel, etc...

Does she have to pay for all the Crown lands' maintenance or is there another budget that takes care of it? I image just Buckingham Palace would be a few million to maintain.
 
I just don't understand how they can leech of the system and be happy. The don't even have to work for that.. being born in an inbred family has its advantages I suppose.
