Quebec now allows mercy killing.

If you and your doctor agree in writing that to die would be the most best possible choice it can now be done legally.

I've been in touch with a few doctors in Quebec and 1 of them has agreed to help me commit suicide.

I can't wait! I forgot who said it but the saying goes: There are fates worse than death.

To mods: I am not suicidal and I've done nothing wrong or illegal so I'd appreciate it if you would respect my wishes and not ban me. Thank you.

I don't know the law but usually there has to be a terminal illness or something.... or is there no ethical commission that sets the rules?

I appreciate it. It sounds like you may understand. Are you an open-minded person?

I'll take your word when you say you know what is best for your life over any others. That said, I can't find where Quebec officially signed in their law legalizing doctor-assisted death. As far as I can see it has yet to be codified.

Sad to read this.
If they can't make you comfortable until the natural end, then that's probably a better option than having to suffer indescribable pain.

Do what's best for you and your family, they don't want to see you suffer either.

Bonne chance mon ami.

Good, I can think of a few people in Quebec that need to be put out of their misery. They can start with Justin Trudeau and Pauline Marois.

Death is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Your choice, but one that I would never make.

I agree with mercy killing if the circumstances are right, and those should be determined by enough people such as family and multiple doctors. Ex: someone who is basically a lemon and there is no chance of coming back.

Or we could just let people handle their own lives. You know, at least pretend that that these tax-paying, working, voting people are actually adults?

Unless there is reason to believe a person is not mentally capable, there is no reason to require anything other than their own notarized signature on a statement of their intent. Anything beyond that is just public interference in very private matters, no matter how well intentioned it is.

For the same reason, I have the same opinion on mandatory waiting periods for divorces and abortions too. None of those three things are anything that anyone ever wants to do, they're things they feel they need to do considering that the alternatives are worse. So why does the public feel the need to butt in and make long and deeply painful processes even longer and more painful?

And yes, I wrote all that realizing I am probably posting in a troll thread.

You're rather cheerful for someone who wants to die.

True... But do it on a massive enough scale we can largely eliminate the artificial contribution to global warming and save hundreds of species of animal from extinction in the process! After all, what's five or six billions among friends?

If that is your decision, I can do nothing but to respect it. I personally feel that it's a doctor's moral responsibility to provide these services, so it's good to see Quebec allowing it.

Best of luck in the next life; and as you're paddling down the river, remember as the song goes: "row row row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream."

perhaps we should allow people to sell themselves into slavery too

if they're adults and mentally capable, there's no reason for public interference in very private matters

i mean, what's the worst that could happen?

there's a reason these are known as 'kill yourself already grandma so i can get my money' laws.

there is no way for such a law NOT to lead to increased elder abuse and bullying as people attempt to 'influence' the elderly to do what they want
