OP obviously doesn't understand how football contracts work.

Regardless, who cares if he hasn't snapped a ball? His value is his celebrity and the gagillion Gator fans who will watch him.

i agree with this. make it 2 years before you can negotiate a new contract

Like Miles Austin. Worked hard every play he had a chance when he was signed and slowly started to get more playing time, making big plays, and now Cowboys extended his contract + gave him more moola.

Well you can't fault Tebow. If that's what the going rates are, then go after it and get it....no reason not to. It's not his fault that's the way it works. He'd be crazy to sign for league minimum if he can get more easily.

I'm mixed. I don't know why they went and got Quinn. Orton is okay....Tebow well...who knows.

IMO Orton is worse than Quinn, and Quinn has just been shafted by being on one of the worst overall offenses in the league. Too bad he'll never get to show it. I don't think McDaniels had planned on getting a QB during the draft when he got Quinn.

For whatever reason, Denver felt the need to have three backup QBs.

3 backups? They have 2. They cut Chris Simms right after they got Quinn, and they cut Brandstater not too long after getting Tebow.

this is the exact kind of thing that people said about Lebron James before he dribbled a ball in a NBA game

he's now one of the top two players in the NBA

comparing Lebron James entering the NBA to Tim Tebow entering the NFL is laughable

I was referring to the widely-held belief that Orton, Quinn, and Tebow are all backup-quality quarterbacks. Officially, no, they don't have three backups.

And then some. While James was clearly a prodigy and proved it as kick-@ss 19 year old in the nba, most don't even think Tebow will ever be a reliable franchise starting qb.

only 8 mil guaranteed. that's not a bad deal. Worst case they cut him and only out 8 million. Not a huge hit on cap either. Its all in the details. If a lot of the money is front loaded and the incentives are really low then they might have an issue. Tebow is still a project. Old habits die hard and while he shorten is throwing motion unless injuries to Orton and Quinn occur he is unlikely to see time under center other than wildcat type formation.

It's a 5 year $11.25 million deal. He's going to have to start and actually perform to make any of the bonuses. So, it's not a bad deal for either party.

I don't see a problem with this. The average NFL career is three and a half years. You cant work your way up. By the time you do you'll be either cut or too injured to continue playing. Usually guys are used up by 30 y/o. It's a brutal sport. Look at some of this years NBA contracts if you want to complain.

Meh, if a team is willing to pay you that, then why not?

I have no issue with this other than two exceptions:

A. As long as the team doesn't start the bullshit "We're leaving unless you build us a new stadium".

B. Team doesn't want any bailouts or file for bankruptcy.

As long as they can pay this on tickets sales/tv deals/etc., more power to them. I don't think they are worth it but I'm not writing the check so it doesn't matter what the hell I think anyway! 😛

NFL needs to have entry level contracts/rookie caps. Don't care who you are, until you prove yourself in the NFL you should not get the kind of money Sam Bradford just got. Forget Tebow, Bradfords contract should make any football fan sick.

eh, not really a great argument, since it's likely Austin would've held out, which is also stupid. Should be more like baseball where usually the contracts are relatively low, but there's arbitration/team control beyond the initial low rookie contracts.

first off its a fair contract for his position in the draft $13 over 5 is fair for a QB, if he performs he gets $33. Its a good contract because the player has no reason to hold out if he becomes a top player, he would still get top money

also Tebow will be a great QB, he is a winner, smart, mobile with good strength and accuracy.

and Bradford getting $50 million after missing last season is insane

Was there any other team even interested in Tebow? Drafting him in the first round was a stretch. Giving him $13m guaranteed is an even bigger stretch.

I have no personal beef against the guy, I just don't see him having NFL level talent. His arm strength, accuracy, release & overall mechanics are below average.

His greatest asset is his "mobility," which in college was a product of him being bigger than his tacklers. In the NFL, he's just gonna be a slow footed sitting duck. A cross between Rob Johnson and JaMarcus Russell.

I'll gladly eat my words if he even plays through the length of his contract, but I wouldn't count on it.
