Some people are now speculating that this 'Qualcomm interested in acquiring Intel' was never true in the first place, but rather a false rumour cooked up by someone for stock manipulation.

Because Qualcomm acquiring Intel would be rather absurd.

Forgetting Renduchintala? He was probably a trojan inserted into Intel by Qualcomm and he got a first person view of the inner goings on at Intel, their internal corporate structure, what they excelled at, what they sucked at etc. Probably was more busy writing the reports for Qualcomm than doing his job which ultimately got him fired.

Will I get a time-out if I say I LOL'd at this thinking about the heads that will explode in this forum?
Its appears 'glue chips together' really wasn't in the 'rearview mirror'.

Typical of Marketing, the actual reality is:

Why Objects in the Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear

No you are good homie. This is about a vendor, but it isn't a vendor thread.

Plot twist: AMD is the potential buyer :p

Don't they lose x86 if they got bought out? Everyone was saying that when people were talking about AMD being acquired.
Yes, according to an article from Techzine AMD would have to approve it -

For one, it would have depended on AMD to keep the x86 license legally intact, because the Intel acquisition would have broken up the agreement between the two parties (which lumps together x86-64 IP for just Intel and AMD). A clause in the license speaks of its dissolution after a “change of control” with respect either party. It deterred potential buyers from an AMD takeover when that company was in trouble a decade ago.

They brought up other concerns stemming from the deal - https://www.techzine.eu/news/infras...m-pulls-out-of-intel-no-surprise/?form=MG0AV3

Well as was pointed out Charlie might be misdirecting with the tags, but the universe of companies that could swallow Intel whole, could actually be interested in buying them in the real world, and would not trigger antitrust issues is pretty small. Broadcom is probably the leading contender, and they could easily do it in an all stock transaction. The best time to do a buyout is when your own stock is overvalued thanks to AI hype and your target's stock price is quite depressed. If it works out and Intel's assets recover they make out like bandits. If it fails well their stock price was due for a big correction eventually so it wouldn't end up costing them that much in the long run.

As for whether the transaction increases the chance that Intel survives in the long term, who knows. Guess that depends on who is running it. If nothing else (and they kept it mostly intact) it would eliminate concerns about cash flow to sustain investment in x86 development and fab buildout.

If they do it I'd expect it to be priced at about $30 a share, just under a 50% premium of their current price.

If there was someone crazy enough to want to buy Intel Foundry is out there... Elon sure fits the bill. Have to figure Broadcom or Qualcomm wants Intel Products and not the Foundry.

Not sure what AMD would want to agree to let the deal go through.
