Quake Server/Network Trafic Question

Has anyone here ever run a packet sniffer on a quake server?
Do you have any idea how big the packets are? Or more specifically how much load (kb or mb/sec) an 8ppl server would create?

We just started playing at work recently and we only have the Shareware (max 8ppl) version. Our tech services guys are trying to shut this down claiming bandwidth as their issue. But with 8ppl (or even 2 servers = 16ppl) on a 10baseT (or 100baseT) network I personally don't see this as any issue at all.

It could be an issue if the network was in poor shape and had key weak choke points.
And as it just so happens, most networks do.

However, a properly run 10bT could easily handle it.

Exactly.

Anyone else got anything on this?
