Funny you should mention that. IMO Unreal had one of the worst miniguns evah. Unique design but totally underwhelming sound and firepower. Even the Automag is deadlier.

The Venom from RTCW is by far the best.

Yes, that one was no pushover in terms of firepower. But model-wise it's a little cute/gimmicky and the overheating is, well, a tad too much realism for its own good.

But as Smilin said, the winning feature of the Q2 minigun besides its firepower is that totally devastating sound. Rapid stream of sharp, explosive bursts giving that visceral feel of ripping through your opponents. I was totally hoping that it'd make a triumphant return in Q4 but unfortunately id has fallen in love with that ridiculous nailgun franchise.

The Q3:Team Arena nailgun kinda sucked. Sure, like the unreal flak cannon it's nice for that point blank shot (especially at someone coming up a jumppad :p ), but otherwise the nailgun was uninmpressive.

The Quake 1 supernailgun however - ouch! The sound of that thing alone was awesome. The fact that every nail was rendered so you could see the stream rolling out was cool too.

If you want to see what you can do with the Q3 railgun, watch Vo0's video. I think it is CPMA done by Vo0. He makes it look easy.

there are a few mods based on LMCTF in q3. the first one was ACTF which is FAST as hell. it died back in 02 but there is a ctf revival going on right now, head over to nachos.net and vistis the alliance forums if you wanna get it.

LRCTF for q3(lokis revenge) also came out a year ago but died after about 8 months of playing, they are going to release v1.1 but we still have revivals and the bots are awesome in the mod.

if you miss your offhand grapple, download those two modes, offhand grapple>*

I remember being blown away by the railgun trail

However I spent more time on quake 1 than I did quake 2, in their respective days.

That's still probably my favorite online multiplayer, ever. It's obviously crude by today's standards, but I was new to online gaming at the time, and I was more hooked on AQ2 than Rush was on Oxycontin.

I think he might be referring to the UT minigun? (which did kick ass, btw). The one from original Unreal looked like a blender!
