Maybe we should make an xtra forum for VIAN's "Oldies but Goodies"
:)

Vian, you can look up and down with +mlook
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for all those of you that have answered the question. But once is enough. :)

Pic of game at end of 3rd episode.

I already started the 4th episode. The game seems really short. I think the max time I've spent on a level was probably 15min. Average of 7min a level.

One of the things I love about the level design is that, I'm not too afraid to branch off, because it was made clear in the beginning that you will pass through every hallway, not counting as a secret. You will always find your way to the end. Fun game. Soundtrack is a bit repetitive though.

Yeah it is a little short by todays standards, but a great game nonetheless. The atmosphere is as good as the gameplay. Try nightmare skill for more of a challenge.

If you are using GLQuake, then you are already using 'some mod' and might as well use a *better* glquake than the original. The original glquake was pretty quirky and more of a demo for the new voodoo cards at the time. Fuhquake / Tenebrae are not mods, they are engine upgrades and very good ones at that.

GLQuake was an excuse to run Quake on other video cards. So in essence it was the original.

I'll take a look at it though.

FYI, Carmack stated he is doing a major graphics upgrade to Quake 2 that he will be releasing for free in the next few months. Now that will rock. He said he is only updating the graphics. The maps would be the same. I think I read that at voodoo extreme.

I loved the Q2 maps and the weapons (Super Shotgun, Railgun, Rocket Launcher).

Tokay's Towers
The Edge
The Frag Pipe

Ah the fond memories....

The new versions of Quake and Quake II are supposedly going to use the Doom III engine for rendering and there's hope that some of the texture artwork might get converted too.

Didn't Reznor also do the soundtrack for Descent? It's been so long since I played it I can't remember.

Wow the memories...

Because of this thread I dug out the quake CD form the bottom of my draw. I am going to install it, the first time since 1996 :)

Maybe we can start a list of the now necessary patches and thier locations on the web.

Anyone?

I am installing as I type...

Q3A is the reason why I dropped out of college :) Rail only CTF was fun as hell. Anyone still play regularly and knows of any good pub server?

Funny how, at the same time someone mentions Quake in "Video", there's a link to the full Duke Nukem 3D on the "Oher" forum... considering the two games came out at the same time, and were fierce competitors.

Ahh... the memories... between the strange, immersive world of Quake, and the corrosive humour of Duke, how many sleepless nights... :)

BTW, is Quake freeware yet? I'd like to get some mission packs for myself - already have the original CD versions of Q and Q2...

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails did the soundtracks for Quake and Quake II IIRC.
He did the soundtrack for the first Quake only. The Quake II soundtrack was done by Sonic Mayhem.
Trent did the sound for Doom3 too. ...or "is doing"... or however you want to put it. ;)
