Just checked the Falcon NW site. That quad core system they sale is very very expensive, and is no were near 3.7ghz. They are also very proud of there inentory they chage a lot for any add on or upgraded. But I guess if you look at apples web site and try to get one of there High end system with that cinema display you are paying about the same price.
They don't make a quad-core chip anywhere near that speed and it's virtually impossible to hit above 3.4Ghz with air cooling on current quad-cores.
Kentsfield needs to be paired with the best cooling solution if you want to overclock it. I doubt that FW was clocked at 3.7, I couldn't see a phase change solution there. Even on water I doubt you can get past 3.4 without hitting 90 degrees since you'd need 1.5v to reach that.
I'm currently waiting my Vapochill LS unit and I will take the quad to 4GHz. With some luck, EVGA might be kind enough to release the BIOS that will allow FSB over 300 by then.
Well you are incorrect...I can get 3.33ghz now with a scythe ninja.....I bet some ppl are getting 3.4ghz now on air cooling....
With water cooling I have seen some at 3.6ghz....
I will let you know how the chilled water goes this weekend, but considering I can get 3.33ghz with 1.33v under load I will bet if I can give enough volts to load at 1.4v I will get 3.5+ghz and heat wont be a factor..
I can boot at 3.466ghz with 1.45v set (1.36v load) though it BSOD when launching the 4th of 4 instances of
F@H....so I went out and boosted it to 1.475v set (1.41v idle, 1.38v load)....I launch all 4 sintances no BSOD...temps race....I was idling at 66-70c at idle...load hits 77c and then eventually it rebooted.....
That was heat...I opened up the window letting in some of that high 40s temp in and the temps go lower...I ran it for longer this time and no reboots...Still running...But I dont like the heat so I will wait until I have better cooling.
This chilled water setup should by review accounts lower my load temps 19-23c....I will see ofcourse.
fact of the matter is a qx6700 at those vcores and speeds is creating 180-190watts of heat for dissapation. NO air cooling is sufficent for that and at those temps even most water cooling systems start to fade. Chilled water is the basic limit and it starts to get on the low end.
They could have done 3.73ghz which is likely set at 14x266...with current mobos that is the best option for stability is not to touch the FSB at all...Cherry picked ES chip and I totally se it happening with a chilled water setup.

All done with air cooling from what I can tell.....Notice how well the asus p5b deluxe did....I htink water cooling easily gets 3.4ghz...chilled water is going to take me to 3.5ghz I am sure of it, if not more....
