Q9450 available anywhere?

Heh, my Boss is willing to subsidize a better chip for my new build when the Wife is not. ;) The expectation is that I'd be doing more work from home (wo0t!). I had one in my cart at mwave last night and now it's gone. <sigh> Early bird gets the worm and all that I guess. Now I can't find it anywhere. Any hot leads??

OT, I'm a bit confused, what level of memory is needed for the 1333FSB chips? TIA.

I just got an X3350 (xeon equivilant to Q9450) form theNerds.com, ordered Sunday and shipped yesterday, I think they still have them in stock.

The Quad pumped FSB on Intels is twice the minimum ramspeed

1600FSB = ddr2-800 minimum
1333FSB = ddr2-667 minimum
1066FSB = ddr2-533 minimum

Of course if you want to overclock you should at least get the next step up from the minimum

Ah, so DDR2 800 is fine for this chip? Thanks! And thanks for the lead. I saw a thread about the differences between the Xeon / non-Xeon version and left still confused. What *are* the differences other than marketing hoopla?

Yeah, I have that microcenter 9450 sitting on my desk at home. I highly recommend just getting the oem version if you're going to oc, the retail hsf is VERY SMALL and will be just about useless for overclocking.

None that I know of, I beleive they are the same chip.

Some people claim the Xeon goes through more stringent testing and possibly has some optimizations for server apps, but I have never seen any proof to that claim. The benchmark and overclocking results I've seen show the two chips performing identically

Yeah, I'm looking at OEM -- I believe that the Shuttle SFF box I'm getting for it has the cooler built-in.

You guys are awesome, thanks for all the info!

Yeah, wish I had a Micro Center near me:( The nearest one is 60+ miles away, and they aren't offering the OEM Q9450 online in this area. I would have saved $50 on there price, but not worth the time,effort,gasoline to make a 120mi round trip.

Haha it couldn't have been more obvious on the Mircocenter site: a *giant* banner on the front page offering that deal. Gonna put in the order later today (tempting fate?) once I check off a couple more boxes on my build.

You could do overnight shipping, you know. It's only $11. Or if you want to save some extra dimes, ground shipping is at $6, I believe.

Well dammit:brokenheart: When I tried to add it to my Microcenter cart on Sunday I got the message "This item not available for online purchase", now they are available again.

Oh well, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Maybe I will get lucky on the stepping and get one of those golden ones:)

We ship to the US and ship many items to Canada as well. We're located in Michigan. That's the only state that will get hit for tax on the 9450's. As a bonus, we are currently (to my knowledge) the only store with the retail units in stock - and have been for a few weeks ;)

actually, I think that Ben is the owner. he and byronm from moogr.com are the only head honchos from etailers who show their faces around here. Yellowbeard is a rep for corsair and he's pretty helpful, but, overally, I'm pretty disappointed that other etailers don't have more of a presence here. It does make it kind of hard to not look at those that are here first, of course. I've had several experiences with all 3 of them that justify my shopping at them every time, often even before the egg when prices are competitive.

Do so if you are not afraid of ruining your board. :p

Judging TankGuys by their prices for the Q6600 ($290) and E8400 ($250), one can surmise that the price of their Q9450 ($380) includes a substantial nerd tax.

yes, well, when you have 80 cpus that everybody wants but nobody (including newegg) has in stock, a small nerd tax is in order imho.
