Q6600 Temp and voltage question

I currently have my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz 1.41v (under bios) 1.368v under cpuz.

My temp is idel at 46-48C idle and 52C full throttle. This seems to be the same from 1.375v through 1.41v. No change in temp. My HSF (ASF-7)is not even warm. Does this mean I can afford to increase the volt all the way up?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, not much differance between idle and load ( 4 cores?) there!....mine goes from 32 to 44-48 under load.....I havent gone as high as you, so cant say what volts to give the cpu. 1.41 seems high to me....but 52 load if true, you have loads of headroom to go further..

I don't understand how you only have a 4 degree difference from idle to load... What is "load" to you? Can't be a 100% like Prime95 is it? Most people see at least 10-15C increases from idle to load.

yeah I find this odd.
if i go from 1.375 to 1.41v, the temp is unchanged. My HSF is not even warm, rather cool

My definition of load is 3hrs of playing FEAR.

Thanks for your response.

Load temps should be measured with Prime95 25.x. Not some random game that exercises the GPU more than the CPU.

Oops. Mod cleanup time.

Edit: (I was posting from my cell phone, and it kept giving me an error, and the default action is "retry".)

thanks for your response Vlarry.

I am currently running Prim95 25.6 (30mins) with CPUID monitor
CPUIN: 51C

max temps
Core1: 58C
Core2: 56C
Core3: 54C
Core4: 52C

are these temps dangerously high? My HSF is still less than warm to touch...not sure if I should up the volts or reapply AS5

Those are decent temps. You still have some headroom to increase the voltages if you want to.

I get about the same results as you PUN with Prime95. I am only at 3.1ghz though and getting core failures under Prime95. I am running 3.0ghz with 3rd core failure around 5 minutes at 52-54C. I can live with that until I re-seat my Xigmatek cooler when the bracket I ordered comes in.

dakel,

I had to lower my q6600 to 3.35 otherwise my 4th core was getting an error.

Are you resitting your hsf with a new bracket because there seems to be a room for improvement upon better contact? I am thinking maybe I should reapply AS5 sinec my hsf is not even warm to touch.

Pun: Frankly, I am not happy with my temps. They aren't bad but nothing like what the reviews were stating for the Xigmatek 1283 cooler. I have a feeling my mangling of the AS5 when I was fighting with the stupid push pins probably left a less then desirable seal. I will try again in a week. Until then I can't complain about running a Q6600 at a stable 3.0ghz. I just was hoping for more like 3.2-3.4 range with the hyped cooler and my 7 fan case.

PUN, are you using the push pins on your HSF, I got the bolt thru kit for my ACF7, i think it gets much better contact. I notice your load temps are now looking more realistic now you are priming all for 4 for the reading....what are you running for the RAM, I am contemplating going higher on my OC now that the system has run in for the last month...

yeah I am using the pushpin...where did you get the bolt through kit? did it make a difference?
My ram is running 1:1

someone mentioned this place as they are well priced with cheap shipping. I was going to order a few brackets from here and some AS5. My usual shopping place (newegg) costs more to ship these little things then the price of the product.

Just to throw in my results, the Q6600 does get very hot once you break the 3.4-3.5GHz plateau or start feeding it more than 1.35V or so. My current temps are 38-40C idle, 72-77C in Prime95 or OCCT. Its disturbingly hot under load but 24-hour Prime95 stable so I'm OK with it as it never gets over 60C under normal usage.

Intel recommends mas temp 71C, max VID 1.5

Ever since I got my second Q6600 with a vid of 1.262v, I can't believe the results this one gave me. @ 3.2 all temps go no higher than 51c with a voltage setting in bois of 1.3375v. Been running solid for a week now @ full load with 2 clients (f@h) and not even a hick-up.
My other Q6600 had a vid of 1.325v and it was not a good over clocker at all. 3.0 was max for that chip. And Both with a Tuniq sitting on it.

I can go past 3Ghz no matter what voltages, I reckon my memory is holding me back.
