Don't worry so much about your 3.0 VID.
I had one just like yours and it would do 3.8ghz with 1.52V.

Some people also claim that chips with high VID's will run cooler than the ones with lower VID's.

Also, 3ghz is nothing. Most likely you'll be able to reach 3.0ghz with 1.3 or 1.35V

Just go in the bios, and change the CPU voltage to 1.3V and the FSB to 335. Set the RAM to run close to its default speed (whatever setting you have available that amost matches its speed)

If 1.3V doesn't do it, try 1.35 or so.

Ok whats the point to all this?

my G0 has a 1.3 VID but ive got it undervolted at stock speeds at 1.0 Vcore, prime 95 for 12hours.

G0 1.2500V.

Looks like heat will be my limit in how much I can OC this puppy. 65-70C under full load, running 3.510 GHz @ 1.376V drooped (preliminary). Need to think about watercooling hehe.

Just replaced my B3 with a G0. The VID is 1.300. Oddly, if I used an older version of Core Temp, VID was reported to be 1.025

That's a good question. The whole reason I started this thread was to collect data on VIDs and when someone would get get an unusually low one, I'd PM them and see what their lowest stable vcore was at various settings. At this point, it's unclear to me if the VID means anything at all. I have read about people with higher VIDs running o/c'ed stable systems @ much lower vcores. I have also read about people with lower VIDs doing the opposite. My own B3 for example has a VID of 1.2875 but it can run prime95 stable @ 1.1150 @ 9x266 and 1.2625 @ 9x333.

Watch for an update to the data today; since I haven't updated it in nearly a month, there are lost of new data points.

Okay all, this will be the final update; please don't post new VID data.

I'm not totally sure the integrity of the data collected is that high. What I mean by that is I have read several reports of different reported VIDs for the same chip on different boards. I have also read about the VID changing based on the speedstep state and other factors.

I started this thread hoping to see some sort of correlation between VID magnitude and vcore @ a given o/c level. I have received mixed reports on this front as well. I think the bottom line is there isn't a correlation between VID and overclockibility.

Since you guys took the time to reply to the post, the least I can do is update the data for the last time:

Thanks for clearing that up mate ;)

i had mine stable with a 1.054 Vcore it was prime 95 for 10+ Hours until i stopped it., i did it primaraly because my temps were really high at stock using the stock cooler.

The VID is set at the factory .. It is supposed to be the startup vcore at default FSB..

It will vary from chip to chip..

It is usually reported in the BIOS as the default CPU voltage..

That's why sites like Newegg list the voltage as 1.100V-1.372V

I hear the G0 is supposed to be .9 - 1.35

P.S.

CPUZ does not report VID, it reports Vcc ( Vcore )


I'd like to read the info in the link above but the link is dead. Does anyone have a working link?

Just got my Dell Insprion 530 system in and according to coretemp I have a VID of 1.1625v Stepping B Revision G0. From what I read thats really good. I will need to get a replacement mobo though to OC since the Dell bios is locked.

Just got a brand new Q6600 (rev G0, steppig B), coretemp reports VID = 1.3000v. Seems a little high compared to others reported in the first post, does this mean I have a "bad" one?

Also I think I'm experiencing vdroop on my Asus P5Q-E (bios 0704). I set vcore to 1.3v but CPU-Z reports 1.272v -- is that a significant droop that I should be worried about?

1.26something... My Q6600 can do 3.2ghz at 1.22volts with TR Ultra-Ex and 1100rpm fan. (didn't bother going any higher but as you see I'm overclocking and undervolting at the same time)
