Hello everyone this is my first post on these forums and I hope I am not to much of a bother. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Well basically I have two separate questions that are linked semi directly.
Firstly however I will start off with my "problem," which is that I have a 4870 512. This is a great card but however in Napoleon total war apparently 512mb does not cut it if I want to run at max settings. So with this spurring my desire to upgrade along with a whole slew of other games that I would like to get a better performance out of I've decided to upgrade to either a 5850 or a 470. (To settle the fact of me just upgrading to a lower model with 1gb I cant justify spending over 100 dollars to get just double my memory with a 5770 or a 48701gb.)
So the first and I guess more important question is running my q6600 at 3.0ghz will this be a horrible bottleneck for either the 5850 or 470(or 4870 for that matter
). I'm running all these games at 1920x1200 which I believe puts more stress on the gpu as well as I like to run all the games I play with AA and AF as high as possible. I have a good setup in terms of cooling so I will most likely be able to pull off a higher overclock if that's what needed.
The second question is pretty obvious from the title, which do people recommend the gtx 470 or the HD 5850(this of course follows that I will not have major problems with the cpu). I have been leaning towards the 5850 because of temperature etc, however the gtx 470 in a few of the new benchmarks I have seen is competing with the 5870 and doing a good job of it. The 470 evga I am looking at is packaged with just cause 2, a roughly 40 dollar value leaving the adjusted price of the 470 at 290 which is similarly priced to the 5850's.
I'm basically having a horrible time deciding on which card, and I also don't want to upgrade if my cpu is going to keep me at a similar level of performance, by bottlenecking my system.
So to recap :
1. Is Q6600 at 3.0ghz a bottleneck on 470 or 5850?
2. Which card should I choose 470 or 5850?
Again any help will be appreciated, sorry for rambling and thanks again.
Edit: I hope the title is not misleading, if it is I apologize
