Overpriced, Overrated. Kind of like Monster Cables. People thinkg they are great because that's what their marketing tells them. But they aren't worth the price.

The difference is, Monster Cables actually perform well. They ARE over priced and marketed, but at least they perform WELL.

Bose cannot say the same

My dad bought one of the wave radios. I must say, it sounded pretty kickass for a clock radio. Of course, for 30x the cost of a regular clock radio, it damn well better. After I moved out I just bought a stereo with an alarm function.

What about Harmon Kardon, i have heard good things about them, not high end equipment but very nice?

Are you asking if HKs are high end or are you suggesting the OP get one?

rather have a paradyme 500 watt sub than any bose POS sub..

Bose doesnt know how to build subs period.. great highs... not much else no mids no bass

Bose = overpriced rubbish for the most part, however they have occasionally had the odd product that was quite good.

Bang & Olufsen = similar overpriced rubbish, however more of their range is musically worthwhile, and if you like it their styling is better than Bose.

KEF = good quality for music and construction, plus different but nice styling.

Monitor Audio = very good quality for music, solid construction, simple styling, very SO friendly.

Mordaunt Short = good quality for music, good construction, styling ranges from simple to odd, fairly SO friendly.

However MA and MS are not easy to find abroad, mostly just in the UK and Europe, however KEF i think you guys in the US can get fairly easily.

Dont know too much about the sound from the US makes, have listened to a few which were pretty good at a Hifi show, but cant remember which now, was a little bit sloshed shall i say...lol...

edit: oh, i've posted it before, and i'll post it again, try and find a dealer who can demo an REL subwoofer......i need to listen to some of the US brand ones to compare fairly on here, but i know they beat Cerwin Vega and M&K handsdown....those makes i have tried, but they dont get so much mention on here....also Velodyne cant compete in my opinion with REL...

Someone around here has a good review in their Sig, with added links to more review sites. All of them say the same thing, overpriced and definetely one instance when "you get what you pay for" is completely untrue.

They may have posted already, I didn't read through the thread. But if not, keep an eye out or maybe some other member can let you know who it is. I always suspected Bose as being crap, I mean their component's are tiny, and after reading that review I was convinced. You can spend A LOT less and get better sounding accoustics.

Decent quality, but not price competitive. I would not buy bose personally. I hate that they are in both of my cars, making speaker swaps very difficult, due to their asinine impedence setup.

Yep, precisely why I made sure my Maxima didn't have the Bose crap in it when I bought it. My friend has an Infiniti G35 coupe and his car has Bose in it. He is pretty much screwed and cannot upgrade his HU because of that. He also has problems with it skipping CDs. A co-worker has Bose in his '04 Maxima and when playing CDs all the speakers on the right side of the car don't work. Nissan said they need to replace the HU but won't fix it under warranty. He's had a bunch of problems with that car though-mostly relating to the brakes.

Nissan fanbois have hated bose for years. They obviously have Nissan by the balls, plus those not in the know are all horned up when they hear about bose, because they know nothing. My cd player in the 97 works about 1/4 of the time; I have to use the tapedeck with an MP3 disc man. The 00's setup works fine except that its cd player doesn't work when I've had AC on and then turn it off and open windows (condensation). In both cases I have a blown speaker now and I just live with it, because replacement requires another expensive blose speaker or an aftermarket one with an expensive impedence adapter.

Not as bad as some would tell you, but outrageously overpriced.

Bose fulfills a specific niche in the market. They sell to the people who want to brag about how much they paid.

They're pretty decent quality wise but way too expensive...

I've got a yamaha HT system and I like it a lot, sounds great, only thing that they need to work on is the subwoofer... if it had a better subwoofer it'd be awesome...

You don't have to tell me the shortcomings of the bose "bass module" 😉

I'm just saying that going and buying a sub based on wattage is a lot like buying a computer based off Ghz.

Yup, but you know how the customers get when they read that they can upgrade to, *GASP*, a BOSE stereo system!

Back in my college days they were really fun to sell because they had the highest commission percentage of virtually all the speakers that I sold; for this strictly economic reason I pushed them on customers as hard as humanly possible. To a salesman, more commission = these are the best speakers ever. In actuality, they are not bad speakers, but deep down I have always known that for the money there are better speakers.

evil.....😛 justifying spreading lies to the masses

if you want small try KEF
