These are just my personal thoughts. Bose reinvests a huge portion of their profits directly into audio research, and 100% back into the company. I've had a couple talks with Dr. Bose in passing, as well as talked with others who are much more knowledgable then me in both math and acoustics (who have been his students, etc. ) Probably there is someone here who goes to MIT and would be able to share their impressions of him and his ideas. Bose, Inc. today probably relies too heavily on psychoacoustics, and could use better materials in their drivers and such, but they have some interesting ideas, and I think it's too early to write them off completely critically. They have enough understanding of audio to easily pump out a 3-way speaker with a fairly flat response curve and high quality drivers across the board. I don't think that's beyond them. Just because they don't take that approach to audio doesn't mean their ideas don't have critical merit IMO. I agree I have been unimpressed in the execution of these ideas so far, and for much less money I can get speakers that are much more to my liking. That's all I have to say though, and I make no pretense that I am an audiophile or mathematician. Mileage may vary of course. 🙂
