It's always the straight bigoted tyrants that do all the sexuality shoving to bully and repress gays from what I have seen in my life.

But by all means, I hope you continue to enjoy your stereotypical closeted homophobic fantasies like Putin obviously does, anyhow.

And here comes the heterophobic bullshit.

This. The stance on this is hypocritical at best. The US for example continues to maintain friendly ties with incredibly homophobic countries, and says nothing. So why Russia all of a sudden? You can't claim to believe in a human right while preaching it to one person and not the others.

Because the US always wants to spread ideologies of the western world to everyone else. That's why you have problems and people who hate America.

Russia is marginally more democratic than N-Korea and less so than Iran. Any opponent with a halfway decent chance gets locked up, and Putin changed laws to stay in power even longer than was constitutionally allowed. Workers for the government or for companies owned by the government are transported to the voting offices in special busses in which the company director tells them they have to vote for Putin if they want to keep their job.

So to call him 'just a politician' is like calling Raul Castro a perfect example of a Democratically chosen capitalist president who will always promote human rights and is for equality and against any form of oppression.

I give them credit in drawing a line in the sand and standing firm behind their beliefs

Don't like it, boohoo, don't go to Russia

And in the US people get fired for voting for Obama (at least according do largely believable urban legend).
I for one find it incredibly hard to get any kind of balanced reporting out of Russia. The current Russian government surely is very "law and order" right-wing oriented, but then they face much more pressure, and are under much more serious terrorist thread, than the US ever was.

But I don't want to be a Putin apologist either - he's certainly establishing a somewhat authoritarian state. But then Russia is culturally very different from the West, so maybe that's the way the people best responds to.

Oh no, I can't shove my sexuality on others, I'm being repressed, you're a tyrant!!!!!! 😡

I never once saw a homo or a group of them beat up anyone in school or elsewhere because they thought they were straight. That's hardly bullshit. So how many homos did you bash just for kicks growing up?

Being gay is not an ideology. It's also not 100% a choice, either. Even though many Islamic Middle Eastern countries might have a death penalty for being gay, gays still exist in your countries in spite of the fact they are being repressed there, don't they?

And how is being gay an unwanted ideology, when your own sexually repressed countries actively support stuff like this?

Sort of NSFW content here in these links.

This is a good video analysis of Pakistan's gay porn problem:

A favored Afghan expression goes: "Women are for children, boys are for pleasure.

An excellent PBS special about this in Afghanistan:

And even repressive Saudi Arabia is into closeted gay Olympics:

These are just a few examples that appear at the top of searches, and that I have seen before. And there are thousands of other examples from all the Islamic countries of gay lifestyles that are officially repressed and even threatened with death if they are found out.

You're right, we have a thing about western ideologies like human rights, respect for property, the rule of law, not throwing acid in your sister's face because you don't like who she dates, staying toward the front end of goats and other barnyard animals. It's a small world now, and we would prefer our neighbors share our values, so get with the program or we will unfortunately have to kill you. But not without the proper paperwork. Rule of law!
