Well, just picked up two of them after much hassle.

To those in Houston, every best buy has them in "stock."

However, the store across the street from my work shows 4 as in stock and available but couldn't be found. This is the store by Tidwell and 290. the store by my house in copperfield also shows 4 available off their RSS computer page, They also couldn't find any of them.

Finally, I just started calling instead of driving, and the one of Spring Cypress showed 8 in stock. There are 6 left 🙂

spring cypress and what? I used to work at tomball dodge on 249, 2 miles north of spring cypress! too bad I'm not there today 🙁

are they 149 though? i called the willowbrook one and they said 199 .

Damn, I've tried my 2nd BB and they said they had 4 in stock but when they go to search for them in the back they can't find them. The kid said he'll tear through the warehouse to find it, wonder why it's so difficult to find, unless they are just BSing me or something.

END RESULT: Was finally able to purchase at the 3rd Best Buy I tried (Durham, NC): $160.11 after tax

THE RUN-AROUND:

1) Best Buy #1: There was a shelf card showing the card for $199, but no cards on the shelf. A clerk looked it up in the computer and saw there were 4 in stock. He went to look for them in the back and couldn't find any. Called over a few other clerks, and they pow-wowed. I overheard them saying that 3 other people had come in looking for the card, and they've looked all in the back and can't find them anywhere. The clerk apologized, and directed me to another BB, 10 miles away, which had 6 in stock, according to the computer.

2) Best Buy #2: There was NOT a shelf card. I told the clerk that the computer said there were 6 in stock here. He looked it up in the computer, said sure enough, and went to the back. He came back 5 minutes later, apologized, and said that he's not allowed to sell it to me until tomorrow. I asked (nicely) to speak to his manager. I told the manager that plenty of other BB's were selling the card, and that I had driven a decent distance to get here, on the recommendation of BB #1. He was really nice, but said that if Visiontek found out that he sold the card a day early, his store could get fined $10,000. I asked if there was any way to "pre-order" so that I could use the 25% today (the promotion expires at the end of today), but pick it up tomorrow. He said that was impossible. He said the 25% off promotion was no doubt specifically intended to end the day before the HD 4850 went on sale. I said oh well, on to the next BB, and he laughed.

3) Called ahead this time, so as to not waste gas. The clerk said there were 3 in stock. I had him confirm that they were actually there, in the glass case, ready to be bought, and he confirmed. I picked up the card no problem, but it rang up as $199. I showed the cashier the ad, and he called his manager over. She overrid thesystem, and it rang up for $160.11 after tax.

This was really good timing with this deal, because I woke up this morning to a dead computer. I had been planning to wait another year before upgrading, but I decided to just go ahead an get a system now. I was online, ordering parts off of NewEgg when I ran across this thread.

It took a little effort, but I was able to convince the assistant manager at the customer service desk to apply the 25% off to the MSRP price of $199. The guy in the computer department wouldn't budge off of the $199 price, which he claimed was a sale price (reg. price was $214 in the computer). With BB, I've learned not to be combative with the blue shirts, just politely ask for the assistant manager. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. (YMMV)

Happy hunting.

Looks like their in house system is lying to people again/still
from BB external site
Model: 900241 | SKU: 8894057 $199.

update willowbrook in houston bb has 2 more i just got one. just tell them visiontek cards are 25% off and he said ok.

Got the last one in manalapan nj, came up as 199 at the register and showed the guy the flier and he took it off right away.

No PCI E power though, so i'm screwed.

--edit--

opened the box and they included a 4 pin molex - 6 pin pci e adapter!!

now to install the drivers and get out of 640x480 on this 24..

Is mass effect included? Thanks in advance.

Nope. Real sneaky marketing by Visiontek  The box would make it look like it has Mass Effect included, however if you look at what is included in the box, Mass Effect is not.

Two left on the shelf Emeryville/Oakland, CA store after I got one. Needed manager override with the ad, $163.11 after taxes. Cahier would not left me use the %10 off, said it was "double dipping".

DAMN IT!!

i went there yesterday since my office is near it. and they had not put them on the shelf yet.

woke up this morning with a massive hangover i might add, and saw your post. drove over again, and they were sold out.

sigh. what a gas waste.

LoL, I just had the biggest argument with my local BB manager. Must have been on the phone for like 8 minutes, I presented all my evidence but he would not sell me a card. His repeated reason was that the street date is tomorrow, and he can't budge from that. I told him the street date is gone, just call up your regional management or look online, and he wouldn't do it.

I told him CC was selling it in all their stores and online, numerous hardware e-retailer sites like Newegg were already selling it. I even called up the next closest BB in my area (40 miles away) and they reserved one for me to buy tonight, but I'm not about to drive 40 miles each way to buy a video card.

Even after I told him the other BB 40 miles away is selling them and even reserved one for me, he still wouldn't do it...POS manager!

There is something about inventory transfer in the slick deals forum:
*Update*Nevermind called BB about this and, "They only do this for large items like TV."

I guess another thing would be to have the local BB get in touch with a BB store that IS selling them in stock right now and say "ok, you claim to not have them or won't sell them, fine, but this other BB store is selling them NOW, so order me one right now, I'll pay for it on the spot, do an inventory transfer from that store to this store as is your policy / ability to do, and let me know when to pick it up." Then they'll either confirm the details and do it or more than likely avoid the hassle and just sell you the local card from stock.

I think I have exhausted all of my options to try and get one of these at 25% off, time to give up I guess, I guess I'll just wait to find another good price on this. There is always e-bay with the 20% off live coupon, might do that I guess.

Watertown, MA was sold out (they had two but sold them). Framingham, MA had three, and I was able to purchase two of them for $150 + tax OTD. THANK YOU OP!

You must have been to the same store and clerk that I did in SPringfield, IL!

It took two tries - last night for 25 minutes and then again for 45 minutes today and it involved nearly a half-dozen staff trying to find the seven that the one signed for yesterday...but they finally found one and when I tried to use the 10% coupon, the clerk tried (and could have over-ridden but I did not push) but no go...

Now I have this one and the prior purchase from 6/3 and need to decide what my son needs, or, deserves!

Three in stock in the back at the Pinole, CA store. They're willing to sell but no 25% discount. No tags on display either.

in for 2 here, in Carbondale Illinois BB store. Manager went to the back, got them from lockup and gave the 25% each at a register override.

life is now officially faster. 🙂

sweet, got the deal

there was about 5 more on the shelf at the Moreno Valley store... I am wishing I bought two or three now though, lol

How fast is this compare to the 8800GT?
Thanks.

this has been asked and answered in this thread a few times...

this card is about as fast as a 9800gtx so a good step up from an 8800gt

Lucky you!
I called & they wouldn't do it...said they weren't "officially" in stock yet. Said they'd take 10% off, but it isn't worth it driving from Eldorado & back.
I ended up getting on on eBay w/the 20% off from a fellow member here. Cost will be about the same by the time I figure in gas, etc.
I just hope this will be a nice improvement (& hopefully good investment) over my 7900GT!

It is amazing how a corporate store like Best Buy has such differing results.

I had a very easy time getting the card, once I found a competent employee to actually find it in the back. I also had a shelf tag that said the price was $149, so there was no dickering about the 25% off. They even processed my 10% off coupon without any hassle or grief.

Reading these threads, here and on other forums, it would seem that the people who had the biggest trouble were the ones that didn't have shelf tags - the employees argued that $199 was the price after the discount, because that is what it rang up as.

I bought a 3870 a few weeks ago when they were going for $130 less 10% off coupon, the following week the 8800gt went on sale for $150 less 10% off coupon so I exchanged my ati for it. Now this deal shows up and I still within the 30 days return policy margin, so I'm like why not exchange and pay an extra $15 ?( after reading this thread I dint think it was worth to ask to use the 10% off coupon) On top of that I asked to get a gift card worth the exchange to buy the new card instead of piling up exchange receipts, they gave me a new receipt instead as it was a fresh purchase(there wasnt a reestocking fee for doing it that way). Just hope no other crazy deals come up for another 30 days to tease me lol.

Well, 2 of the best buys in houston, the one off Tidwell/290 intersection and the other off 529/Hwy 6 intersection were "hiding" the 4 they had in stock.

I went to the next closest one that had some, the one of Spring Cypress/290 and they had 8 available on the shelf. Originally they rang up at $200, but I had the ad in had and showed it to the customer rep. The store manager was called, took a look at the ad and changed the price with no quibbling.

I tried to use a 12% birthday coupon and a 10% moving coupon but was denied. Oh well. the coupons do state they are not valid with any other sale offer and discount applies to regularly marked items. Would have liked for a bit more off, but walking away with two 4850's for my new CF setup for $320 that blows the crap out of a single GT280 for $650 is a steal 🙂

Dang....UT3 looks beautiful in Crossfire on my 22" Mitsubishi DP 2070SB @ 1600 x 1200 @ 100Hz. This on an Abit IP-35 Pro. Now I need to hunt down a 16/16 CF motherboard........
