If you were out looking for a basset hound, I don't know why you would have even taken that puppy home.

Adult basset hound:
Did you not know what the dog breed you were buying looked like?
Did you get papers and history on both sides of the dog's lineage? Did you have all the health checks done and get certifications? Did you have a vet sign off on the puppy before you took it home, including the breed? Those are all baseline expectations when buying a purebred. That's where you get the return on your expensive investment.
Honestly, I'd leave this as a life lesson learned about research when you're buying a pet and live happily ever after with your dog. Caveat emptor.
If you want to go after the breeder for dishonesty get your own DNA test done on the dog and call the AKC if you want. That's reasonable.
You're not going to get your money back. Anyone selling mixed breeds as purebreds knows what they're doing, doesn't give a crap and is probably crazier than you want to deal with in your life.
