Pure Deadlift Day

I know TallBill was doing this(maybe still). Every 5th workout or so I just deadlift. I tossed in OH press yesterday afterwards b/c for some odd reason I still had energy, but basically I warmed up and did:

10x135
5x185
5x205
3x225
3x255
3x265x3

That might not be enough volume for an only deadlift day, but it was fun as shit. I was watching people doing 1 armed rows and dumbbell shrugs and I was in the corner by myself sweating my ass off.

I felt great afterwards(as in dead). Anyone else that's a novice type or on a SS/5x5 do this now and again?

I know 265 is nothing to brag, trust me... I'm newish.

I'm a novice and I agree that a pure deadlift day is great. I was doing a bunch of isolation crap for a couple of months but then Brikis yelled at me and told me I sucked and forced me to do more compound movements, and it's been great. I really enjoy deadlifts.

Deadlifting is just fun for the primal part of picking the weight off the ground.

Ever tried deadlifts+running? It'll really destroy you/build up your legs. A fairly high volume DL+running workout is 21-15-9 reps of DL 225 interspersed with 800m sprints.

I have not tried that. I might have to make it 185 on the DL or something to do 21-15-9. 800m is 1/2 a mile? That's a sprint? I think I would die on the 3rd run.

Where the hell do you run to? You'd get kicked out of any gym I've ever been to doing that. I always go very heavy 3X5. Most Ive deadlifted is 405lbs.

Maybe he uses a treadmill?

Deadlifts are f-in awesome. About as functional and real world as you can get and enormously effective at developing size and strength.

Sounds like katank was describing a Crossfit style workout. You run the 800m's outside or on a treadmill in between the deadlift reps.

Yup, I still do em 🙂 But only once every two weeks. I do rack pulls on the in between week.. I might make it a weekly thing though coming up soon.

Best day I ever had in the gym was warmup + 10x5x200lb deadlift. Told my friends I deadlifted 10k lbs, just not at the same time. Nobody else thought it was funny.
