FWIW, do not buy Post Road pumpkin ale. That one was bad. Buffalo Bill's Brewery, Saranac, and Smuttynose were all much better.

Smuttynose & Post Road(Brookyln Brewery) are both near the top of the best rated pumpkin ales. I have both with me & they are indeed great. Things like temperature, food, the way it's served can change your opinion dramatically.

Saranac makes serveral decent brews, being a somewhat bigger brewery. I enjoy their black & tans. Bill's is decent, though people either like it or despise it.

Besides grabbing something truly homemade & local, Southampton & Dogfish also make some quality ale, though tastes vary. Some people enjoy more spice, while others are thrown overboard because of the cheap cloves alot of places use. Some just want a little bit, but a big helping of pumpkin. Throw in a little roasting, & serve with a big wedge of pie, it's amazing.
hmm....I'm having a Smuttynose right now and I can't decide if I like it or not. Definitely more on the spice than pumpkin side of flavor, IMO.
