My troop is looking for a new PT rep, and some are looking at me to take the job. I'm not in great shape so I don't really see this being a good idea, but I guess it'll encourage me to do more.

So, in case I get put in this position, I need to plan out a 5 day schedule. So far the PT rep we had made out PT way too random, in a way that people would be burnt out or over worked and screwed when things came up. We were running hard on Monday, then running hills doing a huge leg workout on Tuesday, then ruck march on Wednesday, so by the time Thursday came around everyone's lower body was burnt out and we looked like shit in front of the CO.

I'm thinking...
Monday - Distance Run
Tuesday - CrossFit or some body weight exercise
Wednesday - Undecided
Thursday - Commanding Officer's PT (usually a run or a ruckmarch)
Friday - Sports day

Thursday and Friday are predetermined, I can't change those.

I'm not sure what to do on Wednesday because I want everyone to be rested for Thursday. Anything requiring mostly upper body would be good. The less equipment required the better. I think maybe weight room would be good.

Suggestions?

Check out the Canadian Army Fitness Manual Supplement: Combat Fitness Program

www.scribd.com/doc/25296001/B-gl-38...-Supplement-combat-Fitness-Program-2008-01-01

The Combat Fitness Program (CFP) has been developed in response to Chief of the
Defence Staff (CDS) guidance on the requirement for CF members to be more physically fit
than ever based upon the current operational environment. This Land Force Command
program provides a progression from the “Fit to Fight” Army Fitness Program described in the
first six chapters of this manual by providing a more functional and intense physical fitness
program option. The CFP derived its origins from the CrossFit ® training method, which has
been adapted to meet the special needs of the Canadian Army by incorporating many of the
widely accepted general principles of fitness training taught in the CF.

How long are PT sessions, not including the time it takes to do warm up and recovery (do you do stretching before and after? The Military seems to be getting confused about what to do for stretching these days).

Crossfit is used by many military, firefighters, police, etc. Search the Crossfit messageboards for numerous threads discussing how to mix PT with CF. Depending on time & equipment availability, you could keep it as simple as just following the workouts posted on the mainsite each day.

Stretching starts at 7:30 every morning. I would encourage dynamic stretching. Stretching at the end of PT would start at about 8:20, done no later than 8:30.

So that gives about 40 minutes of actual work out time. Not sure if that's manageable.

I'd make Tuesday your hard day, considering you normally have a ruckmarch or run Thursday. (Assuming that's hard) You want to give yourself a recovery day b/t each hard day, so M/W would be an easy run or some kind of weight day. (CF)

Do you guys just do football on sports day? They did that at Fort Hood, every Friday. It got boring.
