firstly, dont declaw a cat unless u live in a high rise building and there is no way this cat is ever going outdoors, BUT dont do it to a cat thats adult and has lived outdoors, thats is just grossly unfair on the cat.
secondly have your cat neutered, although this wont always stop it bringing little friends back to play (dead or alive) it will reduce the chances a little, it will also stop the smell almost completely, it can make your cat a little lazy sometimes, but not if you play with the cat yourself, me and my mum play hide and seek with mine and he loves it. sometimes he hides, sometimes he seeks..lol...oh and feed your cat 2 wet meat meals a day at regular times, and the odd dry biscuit type stuff a couple times when he asks, well fed cats hunt less.
I guess this might not suit all cats, but mine is neutered (albeit once he was 2 years old, broke a paw so thought it best to curb his antics a bit, still has part of a steel plate in the leg...hard bastard!..heh), is fed regularly, has flea drops every 3 months and only catches mice once in week at most, birds hardly every but then im in London and there are not many living in trees, they mostly nest in eaves of houses nowadays. Oh and he isnt some tubby lapcat either, he is a lean mean meowing machine!
