Hello,
I'm building a new rig and I need help deciding on a mid range PSU. Did some reaserch and found that these are the more recommended ones:

OCZ Modstream 450
Text

Seasonic S12
Text

Enermax 420

Alot of people are saying the seasonic s12 is good, but saying that dual rails are bad. I don't get it, the seasonic is a dual rail powersupply. I want to spend as less money as possible, but the seasonic is most expensive.

Quietness is not that important to me, but its always good to have.

Which one would you guys get?

Thanks in advance.

I have the S12 430w and it is dead silent. Efficency is amazing. I have a Kill-A-Watt meter connected and my system uses only 105 watts at idle vs 140 with the Antec SL400 this replaced.

Thanks for the response.

I know the Seasonic S-12 is probably the best, but is it really woth the extra $25?

I've never used a Seasonic, however they do rate very well in reviews.

I have the OCZ Powerstream OCZ420ADJ. It is a great unit and is very quiet.

You can't really go wrong getting a power supply from either OCZ or Seasonic.

the OCZ one for 25$ cheaper...you wont notice a difference in mid range...they are both great PSU's

All three PSUs are great you'll do fine no matter, the only issues I can see is that the S12 you have up there has no extra video card connector (may not be an issue but its worth mentioning) and the enermax doesn't have sleeved cables which again may or may not be an issue, personally I like the OCZ but as I said all 3 are great.

no an OCA and seasonic are rock solid on their rails compared to those.

IMO depot's are POS's

So you guys all think that the ocz and seasonic are better than the enermax?

Will the fact that the seasonic s12 has dual rails and the ocz modstream has a single rail effect anything? Will one be better than the other?

With thoses specs you'll be ok without the video card connector (lacking on the Seasonic) personally I suggest the OCZ because its modular which is great for airflow, and its high quality, but the seasonic would be ok its very efficient and ultra quiet.

dfi recommends a native 24pin power cable and at least 480watts. also that value select ram you might or might not have a problem with some using "value select" ram on there dfi boards are experiencing problems. i would head over to dfi-street.com. lots of good info there. good luck

Yeah, all of the power supplies i mentioned are 24 pin connectors. I don't think the 480watts is an issue, becasue many people
are running fine without it on quality brands. thanks for the memory heads up, ill go check that out.

That build isn't going to be power crazy at all. You could certainly get away with something cheaper. This XClio is a great deal and also has a 120mm fan for quiet operation. I have the Seasonic you mentioned so I know that's a great one, but I have a rig that's a lot more power hungry than yours.

If you want to save money, the XClio would be a great option. It's made by the company that makes Antec PSUs.

Wow, that xclio looks pretty good. The thing thats buggin me is that it doesn't have a native 24 pin connector that really supplies power to those 4 extra pins. Also, the rails look kinda weak.

Im hearing more and more dual rail psu s
Can anyone tell me if dual rails is a good thing or not?

Well all of those are good PSU's but some of them may be an overkill, you didn't exactly mention what you are gonna have in your new system. I'd probably go with the OCZ of those 3, or an Enermax with a single 12v rail. I am very happy with my enermax.

Cheezit:

If you want a Seasonic S12-430, PC Alchemy has it for $85. Don't know why Newegg is selling it for $100.

And if you want single-rail, you can go for the Seasonic Super Tornado 400. 22amps on the single 12v rail, $80.
HTH.

It does have a 24pin connection. If you look closely at that adapter, you'll see that it's a 24pin to 20pin adapter.

I think 15A on one and 17A on the other 12V rail should be plenty for your system...
