PSU Question

Hey everyone. I just ordered a 1.6a/p4s333/samsung 2700 DDR combo and plan to get the most overclock I can out of this thing with the stock HS and AS2. I am a little worried about the heatsink however. I currently have an Inwin-Q500 full tower case that I bought about 3 years ago, and it still has the original 300w PSU. I've seen some who dont have a problem running a 300w, and some who swear that 350w is the bear minimum. The system will be running with 1 HD, 1 CD-ROM, 1 CD Burner, Radeon 8500, SBLive, NIC, TV-Tuner, and 2 case fans.

My question is....should I just plug it all up and see what happens, or go ahead and plan to upgrade the PSU?? Will the ASUS monitoring utility that comes with the board be able to tell me how stable it is by monitoring the various voltages, and if so, what should I look for to determine if it's stable or not, besides crashing of course?? Any feedback will be appreciated.

See what the specs on the power supply state....look at the amps per 12v rail...amps times the voltage will equal wattage to that rail....alot of those ide devices will draw from the 12v rail and could hamper you...

Just go ahead and try it anyways....It is likely at default 1.5vcore and 1.6ghz it shou run fine...it may just be the ocing that could run in a bit of trouble...

Your 300W PSU will barely make it. I think that you can get away with it but would you want that bothersome thought of your PSU suddenly failing because of excess load?

It would be much easier to up to higher than 350W if money isn't an issue. Using a 350W will give you jsut enough overhead. When you add another powerful HDD or fan, you'll be wishing for a higher wattage PSU.

I have double PSUs for my system. A 431W Enermax and a 250W generic PSU for all the fans in the system. That way, I'm never concerned when I rig more fans or add HDDs. But that's overkill.

Your power supply will work fine. I have a Speckle 235 W for my setup (1.6a/P4S333/Samsung PC2700, TST2 ultra, 2 hdd, 1 dvd dr, 1 cd-rw, sb live, tv turner, nic). Your 1.6a will draw 5A from the 12v max.

I used to have one case fan. But the setup runs so cool, I disconnected it. So the case temp went up form 32 C to 35 C. No big deal.
