so, I have a PS3, and am enjoying the HD experience.
something has been bugging me though. I sort of want a PSP. Not sort of want, but really want. But I am trying to figure out, is it a strong urge to buy it, or is it a quest to truly own it and enjoy the fact that I own it? If its only an urge, should I try an resist? I have urges to spend, me thinks. I can kind of obsess over something, until I finally let go and buy whatever I am obsessing over. But at times, this obsession leads to never using what I bought.
I will be selling my DM4 that I bought, thinking I was going to get into speedball with my roomies and the OSU paintball team. however, it has gone unused. and me thinks I want to buy something in replacement of it.
however, there are two things competing, and that's either a new videocard/cpu purchase down the road, or the PSP now.
which it should be, I have no clue.
while there are a few upcoming computer games I really want to play, my computer as it is now will have trouble displaying the great looking graphics. Crysis and any UE3-based game will probably struggle if not break my current system (Athlon64 3700+ (S939), 512mb DDR400, GeForce 7800GT). Since I am on the aging S939 platform, I would either just spend some money on a near-top S939 chip, or also have to buy an AM2-based motherboard and well.. that will be extra moneys. that presents a problem, as the GeForce 8800GTS alone costs what I expect to get from the DM4 sale, so I would be spending a good deal over that to have a really good system ready for future gaming. (replace 512mb with 2x1gb DDR400, upgrade videocard, upgrade CPU)
so.... should I just get the PSP instead?
I look to enjoy some of the features that allow the PSP to be used with the PS3, hoping that gets further developed.
but I also just want to play some of the games.
I have seen Killzone: Liberation has gotten a good review at GameSpot, and I of course would have to get MGS: Portable Ops. But that also leaves me with a want for something just plain fun, like maybe Daxter, and hopefully the Ratchet and Clank to be released in February. But I also might want Liberty City Stories, but not sure, as I was never HUGE into the GTA series. It was fun to play with friends and just rack up the stars, but that's not really what the portable version would be about for me. It would be about the game itself, singleplayer, and I am not sure if thats a game I want then.
Either way, I expect the PSP to get better in its game selection. I don't see the system dying off soon, thankfully, like other portables have did when paling in comparison to Nintendo's offerings. Does anyone expect it to fall off the face of the earth any time soon with it having at least a couple really good games, some almost being must-player worthy? (Especially MGS: Portable Ops, of which I have heard as being THE must-play game).
basically, should I, or shouldn't I, buy the PSP?
UPDATE: it has been purchased
now the owner of the following:
PSP Entertainment Pack (PSP, 1gb MS Pro Duo, ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails, and Lords of Dogtown UMD movie)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
WTF: Work Time Fun
heh heh..WTF is nothing short of hilariousness and good ol' fun 🙂
oh, and yes.. the poll has been removed as it's well.. pointless
