I messed around with the DS in a store. It felt like a cheap, flimsy, piece of junk with a very hard to see screen.
Am I missing something that makes this thing worthwhile?

eh? the backlit screen has exellent resolution and contrast, and from my experience, it's built like a tank. why would you make up details that you know are not true?

Am I the only one who saw "PSP" and thought "Paint Shop Pro"?

And your details are true for what reason? Because you said so?

Make them up? I looked at the damn thing in a store for Christ's sake. The controls felt like they'd be dead in a few months and I could barely see the screens because they weren't bright enough. The thing reminded me of one of those $10 pocket video poker or tetris games.
The only downsides I've found so far have been a slight buzz and crackle when you crank the speakers up, and I do wish you could adjust the brightness of the screen. Some parts of Metroid, even with the backlighting, were hard to see. I'm also scared we'll see too many developers not know what to do with the unique features of the system and go back to making cookie cutter action games instead of branching out with the gameplay as Nintendo and Sega have so ably done with their launch titles. The rest of the launch line up is mediocre at best.

It was the metroid demo that I was messing around with and with the overhead lighting in the store it was unplayable.
