Just to clarify, if you use a REAL browser, you will get the following:

just type the link description here

Ok, I figured it out but I still had to press the url button.

Actually, at home I will probably have to do the same. I use IE at work and the link will automatically works if I just paste it in the reply, but at home on Firefox it just pastes as text and I need to click the URL button to make it a link. Never been able to figure out why that is. :hmm:

Thanks for checking. I've never heard of Konqueror though. How is it as a browser (not that I'm switching)?

It's a decent browser with a few nice features, designed by and for integration with the KDE desktop. Wikipedia

I'm using 3.5.5 under linux, and I don't remember it ever doing this before. So it may be a regression that was fixed in 3.5.6, or it may be isolated to the linux version.

I miss Fusetalk's easy way of doing it. I usually just type out the [url= stuff, as I wind up with a link that won't give up - can't put a space after it no matter what, unless you plan ahead. And if you accidentally insert the link while it's directly adjacent to other characters, all bets are off. Sometimes it even retains the link formatting despite deleting the entire line.

Fusetalk's method was quick and simple. vB seems to have only half-finished their URL-creation popup boxes.

Guess what, this isn't a tip specific to Anandtech forums. You can link like this pretty much everywhere on the internet.

Just copying and pasting the link is so much less work. I actually prefer that as then you can see what the link is, and it helps when deciding if its worth clicking or not. See the thread where some jackass linked directly to meatspin. The link should be informative enough (and often times much better than people's description).

But, but, that link looked just like the typical link that this thread is addressing (and looks exactly like what you're suggesting), so how does that really help?

Just hover over the link before clicking. That'll give you both worlds.
