Just to clarify, if you use a REAL browser, you will get the following:
just type the link description here
just type the link description here
engadget
Ok, I figured it out but I still had to press the url button.
I have edited the OP to reflect that the advice is browser dependent. In your picture, the part does NOT show up in some browsers. Thus, you can't follow your instructions with those browsers.
Thanks for checking. I've never heard of Konqueror though. How is it as a browser (not that I'm switching)?I just checked with Firefox and Konqueror. Apparently Firefox sucks also, but Konqueror works.

It's a decent browser with a few nice features, designed by and for integration with the KDE desktop. Wikipedia
I'm using 3.5.5 under linux, and I don't remember it ever doing this before. So it may be a regression that was fixed in 3.5.6, or it may be isolated to the linux version.
Win7 here
IE8: works
Firefox 3.5.6: does not work
is there an extension for firefox that will auto-link pasted urls?
Just copying and pasting the link is so much less work. I actually prefer that as then you can see what the link is, and it helps when deciding if its worth clicking or not. See the thread where some jackass linked directly to meatspin. The link should be informative enough (and often times much better than people's description).
