But, but, that link looked just like the typical link that this thread is addressing (and looks exactly like what you're suggesting), so how does that really help?

Isn't he just talking about changing the text on the link? I assume the person who linked meatspin blind-linked to it or changed the text so people thought it was something else? If he didn't then, I assume people knew not to click the link based on the url being copied and pasted, so that accomplished exactly what I was meaning.

I'm not saying either way is wrong, just that I prefer just the copy and paste. It can be handy if the person tells what it links to (say if they're linking to youtube), but the thread, the link, or the page the link takes you to is all the explanation you need. I guess for the people browsing while at work, but I thought we already established: fuck them.

shall I admit this? I dunno, but I guess I will...

I never knew about the advanced editors. I was always confused about VB code, as I was always just typing it in by hand. I named my links myself by typing in url=.
Go to User CP, find there is an option for advanced editors... holy shit, I am amazed. I feel retarded, and am amazed like a slow child would be of a flashlight.
Ooooo.

I clicked his link, and the displayed text was for a png image on imageshack (or similar), but the actual link was different. Your copy-and-paste-only method would look exactly the same.

Example of offending link:

Example of your suggestion:

The only way yours would look any different is if you unchecked the "Automatically parse links in text" checkbox below the advanced editor window.

Holy hell, I just figured it out! Look over to the upper-right hand corner of the editor box, and click the
switchmode.gif
. It works in FF now, and I bet it will work in all other browsers as well!

That works on my computer only if I press it before pressing the link button. But, good find.
