I have always understood this:

Muscle car: High HP/TQ, loud, quick -- not the best handlers.

Sports car: 2 seater (although not always), Usually 4 cyl (not always), low to mid HP, handles like a dream

Exotic: High HP/TQ, handles like a dream, too much for me to afford

Using my classifications, I really can't decide where the Corvette falls into...especially the Z06.

i'd say the Viper and Corvettes and similar vehicles fall in a category all alone, inbetween Muscle and Exotic. They are meant for more than straight-aways, but still pack the power.

About as much as those that often claim to be bodybuilders and know all about healh nutrition after ordering there first batch of whey. 😉

They aren't as I don't buy cars because of penis size, I buy cars because of what I like. And it would be a lie to say you don't buy a brand new car without considering what others think.

I can't speak for who you were replying too... but I bought a Subaru Forester, so I can honestly say that I didn't care what other people think. 😀

V6 = Sports car
V8 = Muscle car

This thread, while advancing a pointless argument, reminds me how I miss my old 2000 Camaro SS.🙁

My fan club strikes yet again. Let us see here...Ignore, Ignore, Ignore button. All hit.

I wanted to discuss why people call the mustang a sports car (the yahoo link is a perfect example), not this crap, as my troll paparazzi turned it into.

For a while trucks were on thier way to becoming the next muscle cars, then they became god damned porky overweight limos.

Big engine+simple design+durable+easy to mod=win
Big engine+small chassis=win (which is why I like the Dakota, except for the current gen which jumped the shark)

First gen dodge cummins can run in the low 13/upper 12's...in the 1/8 😀

of course, that is some major (easy to do, not too expensive) mods though.

What a train wreck of a thread.

I love you, ATOT.

Well, let's take a peek at the facts here:

1) It's posted by a guy that tends to smack talk foreign cars over domestics, although says he likes the Mazdaspeed 3. Probably because Ford owns 33.9% of Mazda.

2) Although a couple posts up, he says he wanted to start a debate. No, that's completely inane of a remark to make when you put PSA in his title! An announcement is a STATEMENT not a question.

3) Everyone sees yet another SVT Cobra praises Mustangs thread, and it seems that everyone's had enough of it.

Personally, I don't really care much, but the attitude does get to me a bit. I tended to see him complain about others sinking to a low, but him doing so while sinking to that low himself. This thread was doomed from the start.

In all seriousness folks, it drives me nuts to see people call it a sports car or compare it as such. It is not. It is a muscle car. It is meant to be loud and fast in a straight line and scream testosterone. It is not meant to go through the "twisties" (the hanndling is like a washer dial, I know), nor is it meant to be compared to a Cobalt SS on VIR, or be put in a sports car comparison with a Miata, ehmmm I mean an MX5 in C/D.

Does it bug me because I own a Mustang. Yes of course, but even if I didn't it would still bug me to see people b*tch about the interior (yes a good interior would be nice) but it is not meant to be a frilly sports car, and the interior on the new cars seem fine to me. C/D recently compared the Shelby GT to other sports cars and it beat every one in the 0-60 and 1/4, but it got last because of its handling and such. Of course, it is not really meant to be a track car, it is a strip car.

So what I am trying to say is wipe the sneers off your faces for those that go ewwwww, the mustang loses to such and such on this track.

Agree? I am not trying to start an argument or cover up any short fallings of a Mustang.

Not to mention the MX5 is not exactly the picture next to testosterone in the dictionary, in fact it is next to estrogen (I kid, I kid, it is an amazing handling car, but that's where I would buy an Exige).

😀

Yup.

Cliffs:
Mustang = Muscle car
Sports cars: Start at Miata and move out

That reminds me of someone who claims because they have a black friend they cannot be a racist heh.

Any car that offers a V6 option is not a muscle car - take away those V6 chitboxes and you've sold me otherwise. 🙂

wow...lots of the musclecars of the 60's had 6 cylinder counterparts. You must be a car guru.

I don't mind mustangs too much. I would never buy one but they are quick cars in v8 format. Thing is I really don't like how they sound and I honestly think the v8 in those things sounds like utter crap.

People who give a sh!t about their cars other than using it to get from point A to point B?

yawn

Pretty much all of them did.

I disagree. Drag racing is every bit as much a sport as track racing.

That may be...but I dont think it compares to the rush of track racing. Throwing your beast around corners is a riot.
