PSA: Mail it, fax it or e-mail it

Please, people, send it by snail mail, fax it or e-mail it. Do not do two or, geez, all three of them!!!

Now, there are exceptions to the rule. In my case, if I want someone to know that a check is coming in the mail, I will fax them a copy of the letter and check (this is sometimes a very useful act in my profession). But, normally, it is really annoying to get a fax or e-mail of something, then have it show up in the mail two days later.

It also wastes paper, ink, postage, fuel and all other kinds of resources.

If a person or company has a history of "losing" things, I will do all three. I will also follow up with phone calls to make sure it was received.

What's the big deal? If you already received the info, just shit can the copies you don't need. I'll waste all the resources I want to, thank you very much.

I do not have a history of losing anything.

I cannot bill for receiving the same thing twice (or three times).

I just have people email whenever possible, there's really no reason why in this day and age most things cant be scanned / emailed right over (outside of checks obviously.)

This. When I send out that email, I even cc everyone in my group, such that there is backup and everyone else knows that that person did indeed receive the notice.

This policy was in place before I arrived at my previous job and I had to adapt to it anyway, as our boss was notorious for having a slippery mind. There were only 4 of us, so it's not like the cc's were sent all over creation.

I got a letter by e-mail and fax yesterday and the original in the mail today. I think he did it out of spite because I keep getting pissed at him for "losing" my letters.

lol, in our line of work, they send an email and then call about it.. Sometimes there is an email of a fax of an email, hehe..

Except my letters sometimes have to do with giving the recipient money.

Not all letters from lawyers are bad.

idk, I'm dealing with an insurance adjuster who has misplaced my demand package a few times. Yesterday I faxed it twice and also mailed him a copy. Also some companies won't release settlement funds until they get a signed release; I usually fax immediately and mail the original once I get the check.

If someone has a history of losing things, then I can understand it. I also will fax a copy of a check to someone to let them know it is coming through the mail.

But, other than under those two circumstances, I do not see any reason to send the same thing via two or three different methods.
