What? First one was awesome.

Unfortunately, after hearing so much praise for the movie, I didn't walk out of the theater with the same impression. My problem with the movie is that everything in-between the action scenes just wasn't every interesting. It also didn't help that every aspect of the movie was spoiled by reviews. The elaborate assassin world in the hotel? Mentioned in a review. The dog dying? Mentioned in a review. It also didn't help that Willem Dafoe's role in the movie was fairly obvious. Taken is a similar movie, and I think it worked better because the stuff between the action scenes was more interesting.

It's also pretty bad if the one scene that I remember the most from your movie is the stupid scene where Keanu is contemplating suicide by careening his car into some construction equipment. My first thought after seeing that scene was, "Wait... what? Why was that scene even in the movie? WE ALREADY KNOW HE'S RATHER UNSETTLED!!"

Now, I'll be fair and state that I enjoyed the action scenes. On that note, I'd much rather see a super-cut with only the action scenes.

so don't read reviews of movies you are interested in before watching them?

i had really no clue what it was about other than the 30 second trailer they showed or whatever it was, and holy shit this movie was completely badass. loved everything about it.

I saw this movie on cable last year. Knowing nothing about it and just watching it I loved it. It's one of those movies where the less you hear about it and just go see it you will enjoy it immensely. The last time I was thoroughly surprised was back in 1987, I was with my then GF and we were caught in a thunderstorm and ran into a movie theater and saw "Predator". I knew nothing of the film or plot. It was a great experience. Same with John Wock.

That would be a bit difficult as I had no plans to see the movie until I saw the Rotten Tomatoes score and checked out a review. The problem is that reviewers need to be cognizant of what they reveal and consider ways to talk about it without being specific. For example, rather than saying, "The assassin hotel was rather cool with how they setup payments and stuff!", you say, "The movie created an interesting universe for assassins that you don't really see in other movies." For me, an interesting thing is usually far less interesting if I already know about it. So, when I saw it, the only interesting thing to me was, "Oh, hey... the concierge is the captain guy from Fringe!" :p

gawd..is John Wick going to be another "Taken"??
The gun play and fight choreography in Wick were much better than the Taken films imo. Taken uses that constant cut frame thing, appears to be choreographed by krav maga guys, and Neeson looks physically terrible doing things, when we do not get the stuntman. Keanu trained hard for years, and is still young and athletic enough to look good doing it.

As far as plots? Action films with plots mean less action. I prefer gratuitous throwdowns with just enough plot do move the fighting forward. Flash Point with Donnie Yen is one of my favorites.

More importantly, he seems like a genuinely good guy.

http://awakeningtimes.com/keanu-reeves-true-tragic-story/

“A family friend builds movie sets, doesn’t design, is one of the poor dudes that just builds. Anyways he worked on the set for the Matrix and Keanu heard about family trouble he was having and gave him a $20,000 Christmas bonus to help him out. He also was one of the only people on the set that genuinely wanted to know people’s names, would say hello and mean it, and would talk to people as if they were his peers and not below him just because they were practically making nothing to build a set. I’ve never heard anyone say Keanu is a douche, seems like the nicest person in Hollywood from a second hand experience.”

Absolutely true.

I've spoken to some makeup and hair people what have worked with Keanu before, and they all pretty much told me he might be the coolest, nicest guy on Earth. He makes sure the little people feel recognized and worthy, and it works. Look what he did with profit sharing he got for The Matrix - gave it to the costume and special effects workers, because he thought they were the ones who really carried the movie's weight.

That kind of recognition and generosity is pretty damn rare these days, particularity from someone so well off and popular. I can't see someone like that egotistical little bitch Kanye doing that.

Reeves is great. And, honestly I didn't really give a shit when John Wick came out. Oh look, another Greek tragedy all Hollywooded out with full autos and explosions. *yawn*
After hearing a number of people say "No you should check it out!" I did. Not my favorite movie, but it didn't suck. Still get a laugh out of that one scene where the Russian crime boss calls John Leguizamo and asks "So, I heard you struck my son today. Why?"

"Yes I did. Because your son stole John Wick's car. And killed his dog."

*pause*

"Oh." *click*

Watched the first one again last night - free weekend of CineMAX.

I have to say, this is one of my favorite action movies of the last 5 or so years. I can't wait for the 2nd one.

Yeah I think what makes him best is the humility in his acting that seems so genuine. It really seems like he has been through hell and back. The humility was there way back in Bill and Ted, but that dead-pan gaze and snarl hadn't evolved yet. To me, he is a lot like modern Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns (not so much the Dirty Harry).

I'm really sorry guys, but John wick was an artless, generic throwaway movie that doesn't need a sequel. Go watch "the professional" instead

I enjoyed the first one, I'd like to see things that focused on the hotel more myself, you could really run a bit with that one.

But I imagine I'd check a part 2 out.

After reading the update pretty sure I will.

Ian McShane interview: DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST EPISODE OF GAME OF THRONES. I will quote the parts pertinent to this thread, below.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/05/game-thrones-ian-mcshane-hound

Speaking of your film work, I’m very excited about John Wick 2. What can we expect? You have a role bigger than the first one I hear?
Well, I’m kind of the only one left from the first one. This is same kind of premise. It’s not like two years later, but pretty soon after the first one. Keanu [Reeves] is a great guy. They got this terrific Italian kid, Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the chief villain, who’s excellent, and we have a lot of stuff together. And the guy who directs it, Chad Stahelski, is really smart. He’s been Keanu’s stunt guy for [nearly] 20 years and he’s studied muay-thai. He’s got every stunt man who’s available for [this film]. The action looks like it was done by somebody out of Hong Kong instead of Hollywood which I always think is a great sight.

And so, the story is again a vengeance premise, to some degree?
Keanu gets a new dog. But yes, it’s about what comes on him after that. It’s all about the assassin’s code, if you like. He’s killed a Russian gangster and now there’s a contract out on him, so it’s a continuation. I loved the first one. This could be even better than the first.

BTW, the original John Wick is one of the few Blu-ray discs out there with Dolby Atmos. Nice audio, but there are compatibility issues with some older Blu-ray players. That's how I discovered the awesome John Wick movie, by looking for Dolby Atmos movies.

Also I was surprised to see Eva Longoria credited as a producer on the first John Wick movie. However, apparently, she had nothing directly to do with production but was more a money person from arm's length.

I'll watch it. First I'm hearing of Equalizer 2. More afraid of that one bombing, than JW2.

Glad to hear it. I loved the movie, my wife loved the movie, my cat . . . loved the part where they killed the dog. Reeves is one of my favorites actors, super nice guy and with really low key, understated but believable (in some roles) performances. I second the hope it doesn't Matrix though - horrible, horrible sequel to a great movie.

We somehow missed this movie altogether when it was at the theater. Hopefully we can catch the next on the big screen.

Now for a sequel to "The Replacement Killers" . . .

This is odd. When you click on the thread, the OP tittle is not the same (UPDATE) as the thread tittle in the forum.
