What keeps people from just stealing it?

Combination of things probably.

1) This area of San Diego isn't exactly a high crime area.
2) The thing weighs 500lbs so picking it up and tossing it in the bed of a truck isn't going to be easy.
3) We have security cameras here.
4) You can't see the bikes from the street.
5) Ducati has an immobilizer so you aren't going to start the thing or even be able to unlock the steering unless you brought along a new dashboard to plug in to the bike.
6) I've worked here for 5 years and there hasn't been a single bike theft during that time.

I'm not worried about it. Besides, I have insurance.

True but you don't hear a word from in the middle of July.:p

too busy gobbling on mangoes in July to notice the heat. Truth be told, it's cooler here in the summer than it was in DC/Virginia. Still oppressively hot and you don't want to be doing yard work past 10am or so, but as someone else said, that's what the pool is for. I'll take heat with the option of a/c than the alternative.

People often forget that winter happens. I enjoy watching the news every year to see Americans panic over a couple feet of snow. The funny thing is people somehow manage to make it seem bad. Car crashes, fires, mass power outages. How does that even happen? lol

Atlanta was still the best, I think it was literally like 1 inch. Here they don't even bother plowing when it's that little. It gets packed down faster than they'd get around to plow it anyway.

Right now we're in our cold period, so not much snow.

Was -39, with a -49 wind chill this morning. It does not snow when it's that cold.

I'm going to strike out in a different direction here - I'm pissed off that this winter is insufficiently wintry.

Ok, the label "winter" implies a certain bill of goods, namely, snow, ice, and cold. To date there has been all of 2 decent snowfalls here, the puny inch we got last night was pathetic.

Fair warning, Old Man Winter, step it up, or prepare for forced retirement and a new younger winter.

Maybe Young Babe Winter...

People in Atlanta are probably all using summer tires. Plus they don't have equipment to salt or sand the roads. Which is why that storm last year was so bad.

Toronto is always a joke whenever it snows. Despite the fact that it does so every winter, folks just seem perplexed by it. Probably because there's so many people who moved here from hot countries. We got about a foot today, which in fairness is quite a bit. Police said they responded to 200 crashes on provincial highways this morning alone.

Was watching the news over supper, where they're showing people flooring it trying to get up a snowy hill. Just spinning their tires like a jackass. Which just proves that people aren't being taught how to drive properly. Throw it in second and smoothly ease on the throttle until it grips. Also, snow tires do dick all if you haven't mastered this basic skill.

I used summer tires for several winters in a row, really not a big deal. Just have to be more careful. Even with winter tires you are not invincible. People seem to lose all common sense when there's snow. The nice thing with winter tires is less chance of getting stuck, and sometimes that's just inevitable, like if you have to stop at a stop sign and there's a foot of snow on the ground. Even with winter tires had a close call a while back. The plow had not passed by yet and where I stopped was lot of unpacked snow. I felt the car sink a bit as soon as I stopped. I had to reverse slightly then go forward fast. Some people just keep holding the gas down thinking it will do anything. It just makes it worse.

80 degrees in south Texas by this weekend. I'm tired of having to run the a/c and heat in the same day.

Yea..I made this thread last year to make fun of all the people posting "WAAAAH, ITS SO COLD! ITS SNOWING! WAAAAAAAAAAH!" threads. Truth is this year has been nothing. 2 major snow dumps and decent temps. Looks like temps will get close to freezing today so the salt should start working again.

Pretty boring winter so far.

I hope so. I got my car stuck in the ditch this morning for the first time in about 20 years. We have ice everywhere right now. I don't mind the snow, but we have had a crap ton of ice this winter and it's getting old.

Glad it was just a ditching and no one got hurt!

My sister got stuck this week too. Someone left their car in the middle of the road so she had to stop. There was no traction to start back up again :awe:

Nothing hurt but my pride. I got lucky because other cars were sliding off around me but somehow there were no collisions.

Why can't the job market in Hawaii be better?

So we lost like 20% of the spaces in the parking lot at work due to snow hills created by the plows ....

I parked very far away today...

Anyhow, everything is back to normal today otherwise here. They say its the 5th biggest snowfall in Chicago history, but, it doesnt seem like much, maybe because it had all melted before the snow started, or maybe because we essentially had like 2 days in a row of nonstop constant light to medium snow rather than a quick whiteout blast with those heavy "wet" barely freezing flakes ....

We have a decent amount of snow accumulation, but no major storms so far. Has not snowed in like 2 months other than a few inches here and there.

This was Jan 30:

It did snow enough that I'm glad I bought a snow blower though. They did not have to do snow removal on my street yet, but I think it's coming soon as it is starting to get more narrow.

Yea the only kind of bad thing to happen so far is a couple of the main roads lost a lane of traffic. One is pretty busy (52nd St at The Beltline). Got a little puckery when all of the sudden the lane you are driving in is gone and its bumper to bumper at 45 MPH.

Yowzers, 80 degrees, That sounds intolerable on a motorcycle, as far as I am aware, they do not have air conditioning!

This has been a really mild winter for us. Next to no snow on the ground, temps right around freezing. Not bad at all.

Then yesterday we got BLASTED. Had 24" in my driveway, looks like my work got about the same. I'm not sure what the official count is. The really bad part is its only 5F, so the salt isn't going to do anything for a while.

Here's my work. The tunnel is about waist deep.
20150202_075855%5B1%5D.jpg

I'm over here on the SE side of the state. The west side of the state, the northern part, the UP (lived there for years) all know about snow and cold. It's mild here though.

I get pissed every time a storm hits the East coast and you get days of idiots in Ohio, Indiana, SE MI all crowing about how awesome the Midwest is (example "NYC gets 24" of snow and declares emergency, Ohio calls it Tuesday") and then we get hit and I watch these morons curl up in the fetal position and shut down for a week.

That being said, so glad we moved last year -- the county we are in now (Oakland) is pretty awesome at snow removal. Wayne County? Not so much, lol. :D

edit: this roof raking bullshit (after years of renting) is for the birds, though
