I don't ride, but after seeing the results of a guy sliding next to me on the freeway at 65MPH with shorts and a t-shirt, there is no way I would go without proper gear.

That's why you wear proper motorcycle boots when you ride and not tennis shoes. A sweatshirt and jeans will do nothing to protect you when you go down.

I had a conversation with this guy I used to work with who bought my old bike from me. He was riding it to work in the colder winter months here and he was complaining about how cold his hands were by the time he got to work. He said he was going to go down to Walmart and buy some ski gloves on the way home. I asked him why he won't go buy proper motorcycle gloves to which he replied, "Oh, they are too expensive." I then asked him what happens if you get in a wreck? He said, "I don't plan on getting in an accident." I said, "Nobody ever plans on getting in an accident...that's why they're called accidents."

Not sure it did any good but I made my point.

I have a pair of Cortech riding jeans, they have knee armor but they are baggy as hell and heavy. I've never gone down in them but I suspect they would hold up well. They are lined with a Kevlar type fabric.

yeah shoes are my weak point. but when I am around town I almost always rock tennis shoes.

usually the big bike riders just look at me. a few weeks ago one did the 'wave' and i died out laughing.😀

I've waved at scooter riders before just for fun. They usually give me weird looks.

As for gear, if I'm going to wear full gear I might as well be in a car.

The only thing I skimp on regularly is the pants but that's because I regularly commute to work with my uniform pants. Any other time I'm wearing jeans or my mesh riding pants. Even though my boots and gloves are falling apart, they're better than nothing! I keep my work shoes stashed at work.

What the fuck was that chick doing going 100+ MPH? Too bad she was wearing the helmet. Riders like that should be shot. It's not just their lives they are endangering.

Maybe she should have read it aloud for illiterates. She was the passenger. She probably had very little control over the show-off operating the thing.

This is my scooter:
