i put in the amount I'm willing to pay and forget it until i get the email saying i won or was outbid.

Exactly. You are bidding to get a deal. If you wanted to purchase something, you would use buy it now. Plus sniping does not make sense if multiple people are trying to snipe.

Hey you!

When you're bidding on an item on eBay, don't bid until the last 30 seconds (better yet the last 10 seconds), firstly all you do is push up the price of the item, so that people who bid at the right time have to pay more.

Secondly, unless you've bid a lot of money you wont win!

bug off looser, if I bid early it will give you the time to counter bid me. I have a price limit in mind, and i will bid the entire limit 5 seconds before ending! that way "I" will get the best price.

Pftttt... what a self-serving PSA. Of course sellers wouldn't want anyone sniping, it hurts their selling price.

I win most of my actions by sniping. The thing is a lot of the people do not put their maximum bid the first time around. They put a low ball bid and if someone outbids them, they put another, higher bid. So if you put your bid right away there is always a chance some guy like that will increase their initial bid just because you outbid them.

So take your PSA to someone who will buy it...

Well i dont have a choice, you snipers make it so i never win anything :(

The problem I find is that people on ebay drive the price up to more than what it is really worth. I had a hell of a time with snowblowers on there. They were $189 new at Lowes, but OOS. People were bidding them up and over $279!!!! I was patient though and ended up grabbing one BIN at $149, SCORE!

this is so 10 years ago. Many know you bid late for most profit.

Even in real auctions the main players hold off for 'last call' for the sweet deals.

However most of ebay is cattle car stuff and most bidders are new to looking for something they want.

The latter needs a Universal Remote. They hit google and find an 'good one'. They get sticker shock.

They think "oh ebay...all deals!"

search up their item and find a whole bunch for $0.99.

"HOLY FUCK! bid up to $5".

"AHH CRAP! bid up to $30"

"SHIT!!!! bid it up to within 5% of retail!"

"SCREW YOU! THIS IS SPARTA!!!! bid up to 20% over retail"

meanwhile some asshat shill bidder profits.

I got scolded for sniping once, by the potential buyer... It was the same price all week.. like $13. Then I bid $40 with 6 seconds left, because that's what it was worth including shipping. I won it for like $16.. LOL.

The lady was like, "Thanks a lot! Now I'm going to have to wait another week for one.." lol

Sniping is kind of pointless. All it takes is one bidder who really wants the item. Doesn't matter if they bid early or late, only that they bid high.

It does if the other bidders are bidding based on what the current highest bid is. I.e. if someone can look at your bid of x amount and think oh I'll bid x+1 amount, then people can react to your bids, if however you bid at 3 seconds until the end of the auction they don't have a chance.

Never used ebay, but if I did, I'd only bid in the final moments. Anything else is asking to lose, and what kind of person asks to lose? That's right, a loser.

Proxy bidding nullifies that process.
