Unfortunately, some cars have blind spots even with properly adjusted mirrors. I always turn my head before changing lanes, and I monitor what's going on behind me to prevent surprises, but it's still not a good idea to sit right behind and to the left or right of someone for long. If you're going the same speed as someone else, try to get either directly in front of or behind them.

Sorry, but that makes you a bad driver. If you're going slower than the guy behind you, and the lane to your right is free, the law says you should move over. Even if the guy behind you is speeding.

Drive right, pass left. Its one of the rules of the road, and the fact that people don't follow it is why highway driving sucks.

Agreed, People tend to get this lane possessive attitude, where they think they shouldn't have to move for anybody. I wish our highways were more like Germany's, where such people would be ticketing by the police on sight.

Yeah, left is for passing. Right is for driving. You can drive in the left, but if some one comes flying up on you, the good thing is to move over.

Now, if you were passing at 80...of course you shouldn't move over. But if you're passing at 55...you're in the wrong lane to begin with.

It's not a POS though. Your car is a POS. My Mercury is a fine piece of american machinery that's as comfortable as driving my couch around town.

Yeah, if you like driving a threadbare, bustedass, cum stained couch with springs that stick you in the ass around town, that's your thing I guess.

Whatever, feel free to wallow in your ignorance and continue driving whatever POS you've got. I'll be comfortable and safe.

Of course, staying out of potential blind spots is ALSO responsible.

Here's the thing - you can control anyone else on the road. You can only control YOUR OWN CAR (and by the sound of it, a lot of people on ATOT aren't so good at that either).

I look over my shoulder. Sometimes twice. Always. And I always use my signal.

But just because I do it doesn't mean that everyone else is.

So, yes. It's damn smart to keep out of people's blind spots. Not because YOU are a bad driver but because THEY might be (probably are).

How about this - either pass me, or make sure that if I suddenly switch lanes (for whatever reasons) I don't run into you.

umm how about you turn your melon and look and use your turn signals before you change lanes.

Sometimes you have to change lanes unexpectedly in an emergency.

Don't listen to idiot boy there.

He doesn't even have a lisence anyway.

Big old cars are da-bomb! I drive a 1987 Crown Vic and it is easily capable of crushing those annoying rice-out crap-wagons right off the road.

Yeah, 87 Crown Vic is just about your type, judging by the pics you've posted of yourself. I might even go so far to say that you'd look good in a IROC Camaro. That might be more your style, mullet head.

Please move over...left lane for passing only. If someone can pass you in the fast lane, that means you're not going fast enough and should move over...or drive faster :D Otherwise I would just think you're an asshole.

I hate camaros.

Mullet head? Bahahaha. I didn't have a mullet. I just had long hair.

I also have a 1979 Chrysler Lebaron 2 door with modded 318, modded suspension, modded transmission and soon either an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear axle.

get a concave rear-view mirror... they rule.

But I still agree with your point because if I need to change lanes, I would have to adjust my speed dramatically... PITA.

Because if I don't see you and we get into an accident at 70 mph, I doubht "whose fault it was" will be the first thing on your or my minds.

Thank you.

idiot. its your responsibility to make sure the lane is clear when you decide to switch into one.

this adjusting of the mirrors.... I must try this.... I've always had mine adjusted so I could see at least a little bit of the side of my car (hard not to do with how fat the girdle of the mustang is), just to help me keep my point-of-refrence, but I guess that's unnecessary and I need to get over that dependancy....

:)

thx atot!

FYI, by law they are to still affected by the speed restrictions, it's more than likely they're just going a bit faster, but they don't want to risk a policeman seeing them flying by you at 70MPH.

I read about 'how to adjust your mirrors' a few years ago on the forums somewhere, basically the earlier link in this thread word-for-word. Before that I did the common thing of adjusting so I could see the side of the car which, in retrospect, is rather stupid.

With the mirrors properly adjusted, you can watch a car approach in the rearview mirror and as it passes out of view, you can see it in the side mirrors, and as it passes out of view it should be in your peripheral vision without moving your head.

However, as said above, it's different for some cars. Some have these headrests that are not-adjustable on the seats, such that the passenger seat headrest can block my peripheral vision. I had that in a few rental cars and if it was a daily driver car I'd be highly PO'd to have to deal with that. I drove a crownvic (rental) for a few days and that thing had so many blind spots and was so hard to judge where it began and end that it truely scared me. I imagine if it was a daily driver I'd get used to it, but, damn that was a tough car to park, back out, etc. And to think Old folks (at least here in FL) really love those things, and can't see worth a damn, not a good combo. I also can't understand how the police are able to navigate on emergency calls with them, the mirrors sucked even when adjusted, etc, props for their driving skills!

That said, the crown vic was not quite as anoying as the Trailblazer my SIL bought. I drove that just because and found that the windshiled piller creates a huge blindspot when making left turns. In order for that not to happen I have to move right in the seat (almost over the center console) so that the left pillar is not in my line of sight. That's very annoying.

exactly, it's a giant POS and people figure you have nothing to lose by ramming it into them. also they know that you couldn't swerve to avoid an accident at anything over 10 MPH nor stop yourself in less than several football fields.

as for the mercury guy, anybody who compares driving to sitting on their couch should never get behind the wheel. i'm serious. you're the WORST kind of person to be driving a huge lump of iron like that.

Solution for those who hav problem with blind spot:

1. Drive on the right lane (slow), therefore only people will pass u on ur left and you most likely won't sswitch to the middle or left lane

2. There is a great invention call BLIND SPOT MIRROR

3. Turn ur head real quick before switching lane

Don't be selfish, you don't own the road and people don't know what you thinking. and depend on the traffic, sometimes its hard to stay out of ppl blind spot (when the traffic doesn't allow you to go any faster)

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. It's wrong to be comfortable while you're driving?
For your information, I've been driving for eight years and have never had an accident, nor a speeding ticket.
Way to make a wild assumption based on absolutely nothing.
For comparison, my fun car is a 1973 Super Beetle. Quite the other end of the spectrum. Almost everyone is a d!ck to you when you're driving a Beetle. It's also considerably less comfortable than my Mercury.

Ok, so picture this. I'm driving in the right lane of a four lane road road, and there's a girl driving ahead of me. Whenever there was a car in the left lane, she would speed up until her front bumper was a little ahead of the other car's rear bumper, and then match its speed.

She did this with three different cars so it must have been intentional. Couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Turn your cruise control off. If you remain in another car's blind spot, that means that you are not in the same lane as that car AND you are traveling the same speed as that car. The law in most states regarding lane discipline requires that you either pass (if on the left) or slow down and allow the other car to pass (if on the right). Either way, you should not be traveling the exact same speed as a car in another lane.
