This stuff:

PWNS the typical American "non-maple" syrup offerings.

How's it compare to this?

I actually do not like 100% maple syrup on my waffles or pancakes, it's not viscous enough for me. I like something that's a little thicker and stickier, so something with say 50-60% of maple for the flavour is what I prefer.

I once had a great deal of respect for you and your opinions, but sadly, that is no longer the case :(

since when would someone think that anything with the name "log Cabin" was going to be natural?

Anyhoo, don't waste your time with Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, either. Some 95% of the imported market is completely adulterated horsepiss (aka grape or linseed oil). rofl. I think a lot of the Greek stuff is problematic, too. The Spanish import market is supposed to be OK, though.

Try the "dark amber" (or even grade B) maple syrups instead, you'll probably like them better than the lighter fancy syrups.

Oh... and there are places in Connecticut that make maple syrup that puts Vermont to shame. Don't buy into the hype!

From Wiki:

Golden syrup is a pale treacle. It is a thick, amber-colored form of inverted sugar syrup, made in the process of refining sugar cane juice into sugar, or by treatment of a sugar solution with acid. It is used in a variety of baking recipes and desserts. It has an appearance similar to honey, and is often used as a substitute for people who do not eat honey. It can also be used as a substitute for corn syrup.

Molasses or dark treacle have a richer colour than golden syrup, and a stronger, slightly bitter flavour.

It sounds interesting. I will have to see if its available here in the US. Edit-I see its available on Amazon.

btw artificial syrups are heavily thickened and that makes real maple syrup seem thing, because were used to the cheap imitation crap.
If you really want the best maple syrup, come to Vermont and buy it straight from a sugar house. It's AMAZING!

One of our local stores carries Lyle's. I just never tried Roger's.

From when I was born to about age 10 or 12 we had imitation syrup which I liked. Then for about 3 years we switched to real syrup, it was a nice change but I found after a while I didn't like it as much. I still feel like this today. Imitation syrup is both cheaper and tastier, especially the butter flavoured one. This is very embarrassing to admit as a Canadian.

It isn't a question of natural as near as I can tell. Natural is natural. It's the disingenuous marketing of the product to look like real syrup at a glance. People need to read labels, but companies shouldn't be actively trying to fuck consumers either. If I had any inclination to buy Log Cabin, that feeling would be long gone now. I don't patronize companies that try to deceive me.

Link? As far as I know, if it's labeled as being extra virgin oil, it has to be the first pressing. Some generic makes that advertise olive oil, are actually blends, but extra virgin, virgin, and pure have legally mandated definitions.

there is a domestic olive oil?

anyway, there is nothing wrong with greek olive oil. greece is the world's largest olive oil exporter, and anything on american shelves marked as italian is bottled in italy after import from greece. italy is the leading consumer of olive oil per capita, and has very little domestic product.

Haven't had fake maple syrup in a while, so I can't really say that real maple syrup tastes better than fake maple syrup. It's really a preference. It's like how some people dislike soda with real sugar.

In the end, I will always go with real maple syrup because I want to limit chemicals and other unnatural things in my diet.
