PSA: Disable Adblock on AT

I click on anandtech ads to praise the anandtech gods.

Its been awhile since I've seen you posting here. Welcome back.

But in all honesty, you can hardly notice AT ads so there's no reason to adblock them. More money for Anand = higher quality articles + better forums 🙂

Opera might have in-built adblock.

/stalker

every windows PC has a built in one

its called a hosts file

then remove AT from your host file 🙁? Support the forums you nef on 🙂

If AT was in his hosts file, he wouldn't be posting here duh.

the only site I disable ads on is the WoW forums... because seriously, fuck them.

blizzard is making money hand over fist and they need to clutter their forums with freecreditreport.com ads?

I thought that it was clicking on the ads that made money, rather than viewing them?

Views make a little money, impressions make far more money. It takes some ridiculous amount of simple views - like 1000 views = 1 cent. Each impression though is worth far more, like anywhere between 5 and 25 cents depending on the advertiser.

Yeah, ads are not really all that annoying on here...since it's hardware I like to see 😛

Aren't impressions the same as views? Clicks are what makes the cash.

I only block ads from places where I have received ads that have attempted to infect my computer or negatively impacted my browsing experience. That means any network that has audio, flashiing, or moving ads gets blocked. So doubeclick ads, adult friend finder, anything with flash, etc.

If have no problem with tasteful and quiet, ads. In fact on more than one occasion I've even clicked an ad I have found interesting. I do not however use adblock, instead I block via a proxy on the front end of my network. This means anyone who uses my network gets bad content removed.

Have they been toned down then? Last time I checked they were pretty obnoxious and took up a large portion of the screen and were overly animated.

Just checked. They are still kind of annoying. I'll leave it on.
