Am I under arrest, officer?

thought so

Its felons like you that make it tough for law abiding citizens like me. I took the time to get my carry license so I could carry. You...you are just a loud mouthed troll who needs to go away.

Now, despite having fielded apologies from the officer’s captain as well as from a Maryland Transportation Authority Police internal affairs captain, John is wondering if he shouldn’t just cancel his CCW license.

Yes, they always apologize...

Because I have a permit, it does not give them probable cause to stop me. But we all know that I crossed the center line.🙄

Bastards. A libtards wet dream.

I fully agree in principal.

However, in practice the Fourth Amendment is barely a fig leaf. And while we all hold our ideals in high regard, it's... foolhardy at best to assume local and regional law enforcement share these opinions.

Then again, living where I do - (NJ, with routine cause to go to NY) - healthy fear of the badge goes almost without saying.

WTF are you talking about? You set up a scenario, so I played the part.

I know what the law is between NC and VA, and I assure I don't violate it when transporting my pistols, rifles, and shotguns back and forth.

I live in NC, but do pretty much all of my shooting on a friend's property in Virginia.

I do not own any firearms for self defense, or even home defense. I feel no need to have a gun for self defense and therefore have no need for a carry permit.

I would never transport any of my firearms through any state with harsh gun control laws, anyway.

I have a concealed carry permit, but I don't own a firearm and I've barely ever fired one. I'm not a gun enthusiast by any means and have no desire to own a weapon.

I hope I don't get harassed.

An FOIA request has been put in for the records of the stop, by a blogger.

I hope it works. I am particularly interested in the radio traffic and the stated reason for the stop.

I thought this was an interesting recent development. Since so many of you are passionate about the right to carry concealed firearms. This is what happens when your states share this information with other states, or you get dumped in a federal database. You become a rolling target in states that do not permit concealed carry.

Did they let him go?

He should be jailed for life with no chance for parole.

True but I don't have to like it.

LOL

And this is where they will meet the department policy that all video is rolled over every 24 hours, so unfortunately all of the audio/video is gone.

Except.... If it exonerates an officer they are able to dig up years' old footage.

Making sure we all understand that Not All States Have Reciprocity Agreements With Each Other, and It Is The Firearm Owner's Responsibility To Check Prior To Traveling.

On checking, I do not see where Maryland honors Florida permits. Or any other states' either.

We now return the forum to it's normal outrage.

This has nothing to do with MD honoring other state's CCW permits.

If the wife stated the gun was in the passenger compartment, probable cause exists.

If the wife and husband had shut their mouths, nothing would have happened.

If you would do the same, the forum would be a better place.

NO NO NO NONO!!!!!

Probable cause has to exist BEFORE the officer is allowed to pull someone over. Not after. It is completely illegal to detain anyone without being able to articulate a probable cause for a crime. End of story. The officer has zero authority or legal standing to have pulled the family over in the first place in this scenario. They were not speeding or breaking any crimes at all. There was zero grounds by which the officer should have been able to pull the family over and detain them for any type of questioning.
