There are no PS2 game for download on PSN, just PSOne, PSP and PS3 games. The PS2 console is still a strong seller for Sony, which is why they dropped PS2 BC for PS3, and doesn't offer full PS2 game download on PSN.

Man I hope sony pulls a rabit out the hat around tax time when I will have the money to buy one and at CES in january announces a new PS3 that has the BC added back in with the die shrink. That would be awesome but so unlikely. They really never should have taken it away if they werent going to lower the price to compensate.

If I wanted a 60gb I would probably get Text. It's refurbished, but it also has a much better price than what I could find on ebay when I looked.

I bought mine from GameStop and had no troubles. (Purely anecdotal, I know.) If they have an extended warranty, it _might_ be worth looking into. Otherwise, keep $150 around in case you need to send it back to Sony...

Anyways, Maybe a MGS4 bundle would work for you. Ive seen quite a few of them at retail stores. You can always go for that. Craiglist is also good. I found a 60GB for $380 on craiglist a few months ago. It was pretty much new but didn't have a box.

Either way I'm all about the newest 80 gig sku (not the MGS bundle). It uses ~130 watts of power compared to the 200+ watts used by the 60 gig. It's got the 65nm GPU/CPU combo and uses the newest heatsink. Supposedly it is a lot quieter during disc-read intensive games. It's the SKU I'm getting for sure.

 Wise choice if you don't care about BC and the flash reader. Sold my 80GB MGS4 and bought the 80GB core. The noise and temperature is night and day for me. With the exception of system on fan wind up, the 80GB core is near silent with playing games, playing BR/DVD movies, and left to do folding@home overnight. Temperature from exhaust fan on the right is cool to the touch or room temperature.

Yeah, I'm really ambivalent about BC and the card reader. I beat every PS2 game I was interested in and have no desire to go back to it and my PS3 will be hooked up to my PC monitor so I already have a card reader right there.

That is really good news about the 80GB sku though. Thanks for the impressions since you actually own the system. I suppose it's the closest thing we'll get to a PS3 'slim' for a while and I'm fine with that.

I would so get the new 80GB Core/160GB PS3 but without the flash reader and 2 More USB ports it kills it for me. I don't care much for BC. Is it me or does the PS3 scratch rather easily? It pisses me off since i don't do anything to really scratch it.

Seriously? Nyko sells a combination 3 port USB hub + flash reader for ~ $10. That solves both of your problems.

I have no idea what you could be doing to scratch it. You really shouldn't ever need to touch anything other than the eject and power buttons.

(And you have to dust it frequently, but it's hard to scratch something with dust)

Yeah i don't want that.

I move my PS3 from my room to the living room all the time. I dust it off with a micro fiber cloth but it still scratches it.

All of the de-evolving revisions of the PS3 really irk me. What's next, removal of internet connectivity? With the PS2 closing in on the end of its lifespan and Sony no longer requiring developers to submit for content approval, you'd think they'd keep the PS2 BC in the PS3. WTF? The PS2 is on it's 17th hardware revision and with no content approval is now considered an open platform. It's not like the PS2 BC wasn't ever there. Sony trickled down the PS2 BC then flatout removed it. Shitty.

I could not afford price of the PS3 60 when it came out and before I could get one Sony discontinued it.

I finally got the MGS4 Bundle, just for the 80% BC it has. Some games look great like FFX and XII and
some look like crap Battle for the Bracelets - Poker game.
