So I just got back from the Tenley-Town Best Buy here in Washington, DC. While there, I surveyed the three new consoles...
360: A kid was playing what looking to be an awesome game where Legos meet Star Wars. Looked cool to me! I observed him play for about 2 minutes then he walked away looking bored. He was probably 8-10 years-old. No one else seemed to notice the machine.
Wii: No one was standing in front of it. It was functioning but doing some sort of demo loop on the Wii's Internet browsing capabilities of all things. I guess Wii games are too intense for in-store play. No one paid it much attention either.
PS3: A crowd of 4-5 boys, again in the 8-10 range were gathered around the machine, starring up at the screen in awe and captivation. I must say the graphics looked good on the basketball game they were playing. It was being output to some 20" LCD.
I decided to get involved and conducted an informal marketing survey of these boys, "Which console do you want for Christmas, the 360 or PS3?"
The unanimous response was "PS3".
"Why?" I asked.
The responses were pretty weak, no doubt influenced by the Sony marketing machine:
"It has wayyyy better graphics!"
"It's newer!"
"It can output to HDTVs!"
Etc.
So, there you have it ladies and gentlemen. From the mouths of babes. The PS3 wins!
