PS3 vs. 360: PS3 Will Win! (Impromptu Marketing Survey)

So I just got back from the Tenley-Town Best Buy here in Washington, DC. While there, I surveyed the three new consoles...

360: A kid was playing what looking to be an awesome game where Legos meet Star Wars. Looked cool to me! I observed him play for about 2 minutes then he walked away looking bored. He was probably 8-10 years-old. No one else seemed to notice the machine.

Wii: No one was standing in front of it. It was functioning but doing some sort of demo loop on the Wii's Internet browsing capabilities of all things. I guess Wii games are too intense for in-store play. No one paid it much attention either.

PS3: A crowd of 4-5 boys, again in the 8-10 range were gathered around the machine, starring up at the screen in awe and captivation. I must say the graphics looked good on the basketball game they were playing. It was being output to some 20" LCD.

I decided to get involved and conducted an informal marketing survey of these boys, "Which console do you want for Christmas, the 360 or PS3?"

The unanimous response was "PS3".

"Why?" I asked.

The responses were pretty weak, no doubt influenced by the Sony marketing machine:

"It has wayyyy better graphics!"

"It's newer!"

"It can output to HDTVs!"

Etc.

So, there you have it ladies and gentlemen. From the mouths of babes. The PS3 wins!

Kids, while an important part of the market, dont drive it anymore. Kids are idiots.

Lego Star Wars and Lego Star Wars II are both available on all three last-gen systems IIRC.

I have to laugh at the in-store Wii displays at most stores. You can't play them but the lady in the video says you have to experience the Wii. Well, how can I experience it if I can't play it????

The only playable in-store Wii kiosk I've found has been at the local Microcenter.

What's even more interesting is that everything those 8-10 year olds said is retarded. 360 currently has titles with better graphics and it can obviously output to hdtv as well.

You just took a "convenience" survey, which is one of the big 3 of biased surveys...

I realllly hope my sarcasm meter is broken on this one.

The EB Games by my job did not have a playable kiosk last couple of times I was there....nor did the one at the mall near my house.

Are you sure? They keep the remotes behind the counter, you have to give them your keys and driver's license to use it.

:) I remember little ten year olds being interviewed somewhere, they all wanted an Xbox over a Gamecube or PS2 cause it was newer and I guess "in". Guess kids never change in jumping on bandwagons. Too bad, this time around they can't steal/get mommy and daddy to buy a PS3 easily like their iPods, the price puts it way out of reach. Oh, and last week in a Best Buy, saw at least 3 Xbox360s being bought in about half an hour.

Surveying kids that are already demonstrating a preference for one of the three machines? Nope, not biased at all.

I'm off to Wendy's to do a survey on which burger place people prefer.
