If anything, that lessens your own argument.

Agreed.

Its funny how its a "victory" for Sony to go from dominating the world with the PS2, to being way behind two gamecubes taped together and only just in front of a console that had HUGE bad press due to its failure rate. No Sony won guys, they are teh awesome.

How so? Sale figures don't tell you what % of the sales were replacement units accounted either by Microsoft or users.

If the amount of replacement units was really that high due to the unreliability of the console, it would be offset by the lost sales from people who didn't want to buy a device that might be DOA.

MS were also replacing consoles that had the red ring of death long after they were out of warranty.

yea i'm sure MS is hurting...

and to compare that to the wii, which is by far the most selling console this gen...

interesting that there are no PS3 black friday numbers.

When you account that most 360 offers, were in the low-mid $100s, that's not a surprising figure.

Good for them

Sony has been trying to keep it's sales numbers under wraps alot lately. But the argument is dumb. Sony fans can say that people had to buy several replacements, and that is what helps their numbers. MS fans can say that a lot of people bought their PS3 as a blu-ray player and use it just for that purpose. In the end, they will close out pretty close, but Sony still has to look at this generation and wonder. As it has been stated, they were dominating the console market prior to this gen, and that isn't the case anymore.

ok and?

this title is about how the PS3 was to outsell the Xbox 360.

and over the beginning of the holiday weekend it wasn't even close to doing so.

But who really cares? I like Xbox so why would I care the PS3 outsells it? That means nothing to me on which is better.

What's the attach rate on both systems? The people I know who have both systems rarely touch their PS3s. The 360 gets played while the PS3 collects dust. Saying Sony wins because they sell a few more systems that don't get played is silly.

I had a grad school class on the managment of technical operations where I had to profile a company. I picked Activision and spent a lot of time digging around in their SEC annual reports (form 10-k) to compare their financials to EA. In both companies' reports they break out revenue by platform which seems to me to be the better indicator of which one is "winning". Even though I think it is kind of silly when people get all worked up over a game console. Anyway here is the chart and a brief table. All the data is available via the SEC and the EDGAR document system.

EA+Activision Revenue Totals (in Millions)

2010 - Xbox 360 ($1,901) PS3($1,625)
2009 - Xbox 360 ($1,862) PS3($1,360)
2008 - Xbox 360 ($950) PS3($523)
2007 - Xbox 360 ($515) PS3($116)

Good God, I can't believe people spend so much time and energy talking/arguing about this. Why the F*ck does anyone have to be "right" about which console is better? What is neither of them is...what if, at the end of days, none of this matters and you spent hours arguing about it for nothing? What If?

When I posted the stupid story I had no idea I'd start this. D:
