PS3 to outsell Xbox 360

Simple averages don't tell the whole story. The Xbox started selling considerably faster, then the PS3 took over, but ever since the Kinect launched, Xbox has been selling faster.

Where has the Xbox been selling faster? America or globally?

On another note, if Sony ups their online service and keeps it free, Live may not be the clincher it once was for Microsoft.

live continues to be the clincher. that wont change, everyone agrees its just a better experience, plus many choose it cause their friends are on it

Free isn't enough. If there is no unified chat, it's worthless to me. XBox Live is just a better service. Maybe Sony needs to start charging for the service so they can invest in their security. It's obviously a mess. Even after the breach they kept getting hacked WITH THE SAME SQL INJECTION technique. WTF?

I think this last week was the first time Xbox 360 sold more then the PS3 in a while. PS3 outsells the Xbox 360 globally all the time.

In the end it's probably going to look like:
1. Wii
2. PS3
3. Xbox 360

That doesn't mean shit though because PS3 and Xbox 360 numbers will be close and neither did bad.

Sony previously expected fiscal year revenue to reach 7.2T Yen ($92.88b) but now projects to reach 6.5T Yen ($83.85b) in revenue based on its performance to date. Sony now expects to lose 90b Yen ($1.167b) for the year to March 2012, compared to previously expecting a profit of 60b Yen ($770m) for the year - the company blames the ongoing collapse of the Euro and Dollar for much of its profitability miscues to date and for the rest of the fiscal year

I think part of the issue with the PS3 sales numbers is inflation specifically because of Blu-Ray functionality. I have two PS3's. The first was purchased primarily as a Blu-Ray player and to play the exclusives like Uncharted. I always buy for the 360 when given a choice. The second PS3 was purchased as a Blu-Ray player that also allowed me to game on the TV if I really wanted to.

Even after Sony's Price cut, their sales increased, but not enough to outsell 360 according to gamespot. The question is though who really cares? The Playstation 2 outsold the Xbox by a factor of over 7 to 1. In one generation Microsoft closed that 7:1 lead to a 1:1 lead. Even if Sony manages to scrape out a million or so more units then Microsoft by the time everything is said and done, it's pretty clear they've lost the strangle hold they once had on the market.

The gaming segment of Sony has been making money hand over fist for a while now, so much so that they rolled it into the TV division to try and minimize the staggering losses in that division.

Those number really don't mean a lot. Just because someone buys a PS3, doesn't mean they are playing games on it.

Total year to date game sales for this year-

360- 95.6 Million
PS3- 94.8 Million

Per console as of this year the PS3 sells more games then the 360. Total game sales-

360- 542 Million
PS3- 448 Million

If a lot of people are buying the PS3 just for BluRay purposes, seems it is pretty much offset by the amount of people who buy replacement 360s.

XBL is a better service, but is it $60/yr better? For someone like me, the only thing I would use it for would be online gaming and Netflix and I'm not paying MS for that when the PS3 has it for free. I posed this question earlier and no one has answered, so I will ask it again -- if XBL is chalked full of so much value, why can't MS move online gaming and Netflix into XBL Silver and charge for the rest of the alleged valuable features in XBL Gold? No one answered this question but it might be because they agree with me in that the reason is obvious -- MS would likely sell few if any XBL Gold subscriptions if they did that. So much for the "value" of the subscription.

Yes, they screwed up big time there. For a company the size of Sony and with their resources, there is ZERO excuse.

To be fair, I don't see anyone "celebrating" the possibility that the PS3 will eventually pass the Xbox in installed base. I think it is more that many of us are amazed given the lead time the 360 had and the numerous issues Sony had with the PS3 launch. Sony didn't really get it together, IMO, until the PS3 Slim launched.

I have all 3 systems (two 360s, 1 PS3, and 1 Wii) so I get to enjoy them all, but I am more angry with Microsoft because the hardware issues did bite me personally and I don't like how they handle XBL.

Few people pay that for XBL. I think the going rate is what, $40-$42? I used to pay $28 and even that was too much for what I was using it for -- the rare online game and Netflix. Netflix should NOT be a gold feature.
