I was really excited to hear that I can finally play all my old PS1 games remotely from my PSP until the thought hit me - how in the world am I going to defeat Psycho Mantis with this setup?

Running DiVX and XVid stuff fine through TVersity, and the sound doesn't drop out for a second every couple of minutes like it was doing on the 360 with the new DiVX update.

Pretty happy with the PS3 update, glad it's finally out there.

What do you guys suggest using to stream the files to the PS3 now that it supports DivX? I've used Tversity in the past and I tried it last night, but I had a couple of problems watching a normal TV show, one of which included some kind of network dropped error. Are there any better solutions now that you don't have to transcode?

Same, and I've used it a ton for both divx and xvid.

Or people who have a bad connection/dont know what they're doing.

I thought it was supposed to be plug and play with the update? How do you do it wrong?

If people are streaming from their PC, you can set up WMP11 wrong, or any number of other things. If you have them on a disc, and put them on the PS3 that way, it is as simple as you make it out to be.

Do you even have a PS3? Doesnt seem so. All you've done is post negatively about it in this thread.

I played around with this a little bit last night. I have 30-40 or so Divx/Xvid files with varied bitrates. The PS3 and 360 seem to be about identical compatibility-wise with my library. I only have 2-3 files that will not play on either system ( but play fine on PC). Pretty impressive first releases on both counts IMO. I wonder if the RIAA/MPAA have started their whining about this yet. As I understand it, they are largely responsible for the compatibility delay in the first place.

Thats what I was thinking as well. This just makes it that much easier to D/L a movie and watch it without having to know how to convert it for DVD player.

The only thing I really feel that it adds in terms of ease is the wireless capability. People have been using S-Video to play anything they want on their TV's for quite a while now. Others have gone as far as to purchase media center computers to accomplish this goal. I feel that the PS3s and 360s are just replacing technology with capabilities that already existed when it comes to the RIAA/MPAA's concerns. I doubt we will see an increase in piracy because of it.

But hey, lets complain some more... Start it, make a sammich, go back and play.

Yup, got home started the download... walked the dog a bit around the neighborhood, came back home & it was done.

Folding has been updated as well. Now there's BGM off the HDD (niiiiiice sample song included) and an option for auto-shutdown (timed or after completion).

Awesome, a person of the opposite gender to share in our console discussion. I've not really noticed many posts by you, you should join in conversations much more, I like the diversity.

Those seem to be the only major limitations. No Xvid support is a downer. The 2GB file limit can be a problem in a few situations. Not being able to play copy-righted material will suck for those trying to obtain videos legitimately.

im sure in a week there will be ANOTHER ps3 FW update and i'll turn on my ps3 and have to download 150mb off of their slow ass server just so i can get my ps3 online.

I think you just have problems. My whole download/install process only takes a few minutes at most. I don't see that as too much to ask for...they don't happen everyday, and they're usually pretty good about adding features or fixing a problem.

I'm with purbeast, PS3 updates take for-fucking-ever. I'm updating my system tonight, and it takes 30 minutes to download the damn thing on a very-close-to-advertised-speed 6Mb cable connection, and then it takes another few minutes to install. It's not really that big of a deal in the long run, but when compared to the competition who comes out with a HUGE update every 6 months that is only 7MB in size and takes a mere 30 seconds from download start to install finish, the monthly PS3 updates seem ridiculously unoptimized.

Took me less then 10 mins.
