I understand where you are coming from but IMHO we still benefit from 3 consoles (I don't think Wii really counts though). PS3 online features need, well more features. Xbox 360's quality needs to improve and without Sony, MS will have little incentive to do so.

The PS2 had a crappy launch lineup as well, but it also debuted at $299. The core XBOX 360 also debuted at $299. Sony launched at $499, a price that simply doesn't cater to the "cheap" but decidedly important SDTV crowd.
It's deadly simple. Lower the price to XBOX 360 levels or resign to 3rd place for at least 1 (if not 2) more years. And watch developers migrate to other platforms as a reflection of sales.
The PS3 can't take too many more months of being the worst selling system in the US market period (like it was in February).
PS3 bundles were going for $1000+ before the hype died down. Launch hype drives the price of all systems up, that is nothing new. That doesn't change the fact that it's the most expensive console launch in recent history.Originally posted by: Pabster
Not exactly. The PS2 was in tight supply for some time, and I recall vividly paying about $550 for a package from Amazon with 2 or 3 games. You couldn't walk in and just buy the console for $299 for some time.
They don't have a blockbuster system-selling release between now and the holiday season. Just like I said in January, again in February, and now again in March, sales will be SLOW throughout most of the year for the PS3 while Nintendo and Microsoft build an even bigger lead. How long has the PS3 been out? Let's be realistic here.
Playstation is amazing as a brand; why else would the PS2 still be selling at over twice the rate of the PS3? Well, the lower price helps, as it caters to the SDTV crowd, as does the game library. I never said they are going out of business; simply that their series of missteps will drop them from the position of market leader to dead last behind Nintendo and Microsoft. The fact that PS3 "exclusives" are dropping like flies will only compound the problem.Sony ain't going anywhere. The PlayStation brand is the most powerful, period. If you believe otherwise, you are delusional.
