Wow... so we loose flexibility and compatibility but add a feature that eliminates the need to get your lazy ass up off the couch and push a button!

Given what the PS3 is, yes, that is a fairly good trade off for most people. Integration into a proper AV setup is certainly a big selling point of the PS3 over the other systems, and adding HDMI-CEC is certainly a good move towards that end.

Is this something that's standard across all TVs these days, or is this a Sony Bravia thing only?

My thought exactly... Is it "Integration into a proper AV setup", or it is "More Proprietary Sony BS"?

Linked for the lazy. Not Sony proprietary

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#CEC

I meant "Bravia Link" - whether Sony made some proprietary change to it that it only works with Sony TV's or not.

Bravia Link IS HDMI-CEC. All the manufacturers have their own weird name for it from the pre-HDMI-CEC-standardization days.

This feature is worthless. How exactly do you navigate the menus once the damn thing is on? The controller!! Why not just use that to turn on/off as well?

BC is important to many more people because of the millions of great PS2 games. I don't even think it is an arguement that the list of good titles for PS2 absolutely stomps those on the PS3. As PS2's become harder to find (and eventually EOL) BC will only become more important.

Actually, my wife and I navigate it using an IR remote control, which, on its own, cannot turn on and off the console. I would love HDMI-CEC if Sony could magically make it appear in my 60gb. So, no, not worthless, and stop being so damn self-centered that you can tell people what's worthwhile or not.

I don't know why the concept of using a remote control to control an optical disc player is so unbelievable to some people. My controllers are on the other side of the room, in their charger.
