ps2 vs xbox

my little brother wants a console. i have both and think they're both equally good. he already has a gamecube but wants a console and wants me to buy it with the money he saved up.

what would you buy today, xbox or ps 2?

I have a PS2, b/c I'm not real dependant on online games.
Both have a similar selection, it all depends on whether or not would want xbox live...

PS2 IMO has a better selection of games.

thanks for quick reply

hes not into online gaming. he likes to play with his friends and cousins who come over. yes, i would say the PS2 has a better game selection. i love the ace combat series, just for example. he loves gran turismo as well

i was leaning towards the PS2, but he originally wanted an xbox. i will try to tell him that ps2 will be better and maybe later i will get him an xbox ... or maybe xbox 360 ...

thanks

well yeah. spending $20 on memory cards is not a great thing, however the Playstation has cheaper games and a much wider selection of games. dont you think this somewhat makes up for that?

thanks

tell him to wait and get xbox 360.

dude one word halo its worth getting an xbox just for halo than perfect dark xbox 360 is gonna be a great console.

yes but he doesnt have enough for that. i wish he did cause then i could just come over and play with it heh

also the games coming out for that will be at least $50 or more. these two consoles will last him until the whole hype with the xbox 360 settles and prices are finalized and games are released. or at least i hope so

thanks

hes a hugeeee Halo fan, i think its ok.

so far its leaning towards the xbox

Does he like RPGs?

Xbox has KOTOR 1 and Morrowind if he doesn't have a PC, Jade Empire even if he does.

PS2 has the Final Fantasy series (including the PS1 FFs) and a ton of others.

I picked a PS2 over Xbox for the FF series and other PS2-only like Katamari Damacy, but I do have a gaming PC for KOTOR, Morrowind, and shooters.

An XBox is quite nice if you're willing to take the time to mod it. Get it to run Linux and just about every emulator out there, etc. I've seen the emulator manager on a friend's XBox and it looks really nice.

This is why this shouldn't even be a question.

The Ace combat series rocks!

Does the PS2 right out of the box support 4 player games?
I know all you need are 4 controllers for an xbox and bam, you can play with 4 people.

If he is concerned about playing games against his friends, Then get an XBOX and halo/halo2

I'd go ps2 for greater library of games.

I concur. Plus, used games at Gamestop/Ebgames gor for as low as 2.99. GTA:Vice City is 4.99 used. Huge library of used games. I'd go for the slim line as it has built-in network capabilities. I play games with my son over our network all the time. Compared to Xbox, I think the PS2 has a larger selection of games for any age and genre. Xbox, IMO, is geared to only the male 15-25 year old market. Wereas the PS2 basically covers all the bases. My 2 cents.

I have both and I enjoy the Xbox a lot more than the PS2, only because I'm a big online console gamer. I do play my PS2 online, too. Really I think you should just get him the console with the most games on it that he would play, not just the console with the most game period. Sure, PS2 may have more games, but Xbox may have more games that he enjoys and wants to play. Find out what type of games he likes to play and go with the console that has more of them.

I've had both and right now I would rather have a PS2. Socom 3 is releasing next month &, if you're like a lot of people, you're going to be buying/getting an Xbox 360 around Xmas time anyways.

Hehe. Can you believe I just started playing FF7 again because I put the game down years ago and when I recently popped it in I had no idea where I was in the game so I just restarted a new one. 🙂

Yes. I can believe it. I just restarted star ocean 2.

I think given what you can do with the XBox, it's probably a better value imo. I have both, fwiw.

xbox. No memory cards is a huge plus. I've never seen a game for ps2 and xbox where the ps2 version was cheaper (new, used might be different). While there are more games for ps2 than xbox, the only game that wasn't on both that I was interested in was God of War. PS2 has GT4, but xbox has Forza, i played both and liked both, a toss up really. Just my $.02.

I think we've come to a unanimous indecision. 😛 everybody likes both.
