They use the i since it uses the ? or english equivalent to i. It's weird, everything else romanized to english, the ? vowel is spelled "-ae." Hyundai is among the few spelled this way for some odd reason. It should be really hyundae lol.


A good example is Daewoo. ??. Dae-ooh. Donno where the W comes in though lol. Vowel for vowel spelling, i can see how it can be "dai," but pronounciation becomes wrong.

If you can't explain it, how the hell do you expect non-korean speaking people to understand it?

Jesus, can you imagine how ESL speakers would feel if this is the type of reply given when asked "how do you pronounce 'knife'?"

Reverse the situation and you'll realize your going a bit overboard, or not...

Nikon = Nik-kon, not nye-kon
Asus = ah-seus, not aye-ses
Yamaha = ya-maha, not yam-aha
honda = hown-da

I think Tien and Mugen is one of the most confusing japanese companies everyone has trouble with.

the biggest problem american english speaker have is, they think all vowels are Dipthongs. they can't imagine just ending a vowel short the way it does in Hyun deh (where the eh is very very short).

for american english speakers, they see Hyun daieeeeeee. same with they "YU" in hyun. it's not HIYUUUUN. it's hyuhn where the yuh is pronounced like the y-u in yuck. so, yuck, hyuck, hyun.

in general, american english vowels are interesting in that even the short vowel sounds tend to be dipthongs. that's why americans have such a hard time with german omlat sounds.

So the correct pronuncation is Hi-un-deh?

Yamaha = Ya-mah-ha
Pretty much everyone I heard say nikon said it nye-kon.
